Ideas on Japanese supply needs?

What do you consider the minimun number of supply points Japan needs on hand on the turn they attack the WA? What amount is an ideal (but realistic) total?

Also, do you prefer to take on Pearl when you attack the WA, or have another strategy?

Pearl is a yummy target, it's nice to smack a couple of Bad Boys (Heavy Fleets) and keep them off the map for a while.
For supply needs, the more the better! You'll want to fix as many Resources as possible on turn 1. This means the 2 on the Indian Ocean (Rangoon & Something) and the 2 in Hong Kong, so that's 40 supply. Bashing Pearl costs 20 (16 for carriers and 4 more for CAG, unless you got 5 Carriers obviously), Anti-Partisan costs another 6 or so, moving attacking units another 8 or so, 3 Lt Fleets costs 9, 6 air attacks cost 6...
That's 90 easy, and there's always more that could be spent too :) Like the manual says, should have at least 100 on hand.

well, just a little bit clarification on geog stuff ....
Hong Kong is situated in the Guangdong region on the WAW map ... and there should be no resources. and thats why i will never keep any garrision in that region when i play IJN.

in fact, i think what the manual means re: 100 IJN supplies is the supplies to be piled up in Siam or French Indochina for the sole purpose of repairing the 10 RPs in the SEA region in the first two turns of the pacific war (assuming IJN has taken Siam and all costal areas of CHN). IMO, that 100 supplies have not taken into consideration the supplies used by the fleet movements (as mentioned by 5cats above). accordingly, i think u should got at least 140~150 supplies on hand so that u can repair the captured RPs really quick, remove US pacific navy in Pearl harbour and secure ur transport route (ASW stuff). but that also assume that it is relatively quiet in the CHN and Russia front ... another story if IJN is double-teaming Russia as well.

so IMO, IJN is the most diff side to play in WAW.

Ooops! Silly me! Whatever that province is south of Siam. Not Hong Kong obviously :)
Yes it is a good idea to pile supplies up before the big attack because your transportation network will be very busy. I don't know about 100 there, lol! 40 will do, unless you like to repair rails too...

south of siam ... it should be singapore then.

dont worry 5cats, i see the reason why u mix up Hong Kong with Singapore, as during the 40's both places (i cant say countries, as Hong Kong is not a country at all ...) were british colonies and were garrisoned by Commonwealth army ... there were at least two regiments of Canadian army, together with some british, indian ... army garrisoned in Hong Kong.

the reason i say 100 supplies in siam is that i think its a good idea to take and repair the resources in indonesia, philipines (spelling?), the regions north of indonesia and burma in the first two turns of the pacific war ... could be a bit too aggressive but it will work well if the germans have already made med its own swimming pool and has wiped out all the WA transport fleets in the indian ocean. of course, otherwise the IJN will face a two-front war with WA and finding itself spreading too far and too thin ...
