I'm in the middle of Russian Steel campain and upgrading my 120mm mortars to 152 howitzers.
Are there any disadavnges in the 152 howitzers ? The 120mm mortars can not drop smoke ammo, and howitzers have splash damage, so they seems all around better, correct ?

If the ammo loadout is comparable, about the only downside to the howitzers is a longer response time, IIRC.
And sometimes the pinpoint accuracy of a mortar is just what's needed.

Rate of fire might be different.
And technically, all weapons have Splash damage. This is important when stacking units. There is a critical limit which allows the splash damage to affect neighbouring hexes too, instead of only the target hex itself. Splash damage is determined by the weapon's WARHEAD value in combination with the HE KILL value.

I think all 152mm guns have splash damage on neighbouring hexes. Someone told here that any 150+ guns have neigbouring damage. 120 mm mortars defenitly have not. Also sometimes 120 mm mortars have smoke ammo, but in the RS campain they don't (at leat in most scenarios)

When possible, I'd suggest to change your platoon of mortars to 3 katyushas and an ammo carries
