Instant Disconnection in LAN play?

Tried to play this over a LAN recently, and found that the connection was immediately broken as soon as any units exchanged fire.

One machine's running the CD version, one is running the download, both patched to 2.2.86.

Any ideas why this would happen and how we can fix it?

James,

This obviously shouldn't happen. Has it happened before? Can it be repeated? Does it happen every time?

To rule out the possibility of an incompatibility between the download and CD versions can you try running it between two download versions and then between two CD versions and see if either make a difference?

Another possibility is that one of the machines is running some incompatible software. Can you send us the DX reports for both machines. See the sticky at the top of this forum for details on how to pruduce that report and send them to support[at]panthergames[dot]com.

It's very reliable between two of our machines; two machines in a different room don't cause the trouble. I wouldn't be stunned to discover that the trouble was from the network. (Yep, this is at work. :) )

Running between two CD versions produces the same trouble.

DXDIAG reports for those two machines are headed to you.

After following the first suggestion, we found it necessary to clean the computers... [;)]

It turned out that HTTR wouldn't run in any mode on one of the machines - crashed as soon as any combat began.

It had been installed into a desktop temporary folder. This put it into the Documents & Settings directory, and various directory names combined to make the path name too long for Windows. [:-] Learn something new every day. [:)]

Reinstalled it into a more normal location and all works just fine, and the guilty party has gotten his butt kicked on the Popenberg. [;)]
