I Was wondering if the Japanese recieve extra 'stealth" capability?
In current PBEM game, is about turn 15 or so I think, have had AT guns firing at me for the entire game, some from same hex Im in, some from one hex away,2 hexes away, and have not spotted them the entire game. Cant see em with recon units, infrantry, tanks, MGs ect ect. Same for japanese machine guns. The terrain they appear to be on is open, no great cover to speak of, no trees, ruff hexes ect ect. Just wondering about japanese characteristics?

Remember the Japanese army has an experiance advantage vs almost all opponents. Making them harder to spot and allowing them to spot you easier. Try running elite recon troops like Anzac jungle patrols against them. They will allow you to find the Japanese on an even basis, unless of course you are trying to find elite recon Japanese. Japanese snipers in jungle hexes are a nightmare to find.
thanks, John.

Those AT guns are probably 47mm. I was fighting a nightmare of a battle against them and losing. I don't think I ever saw more than half of them. The SNLF infantry are stealthy also. I've been in the hex next to them and still didn't see them. Good luck.

I was the JA in a PBEM game awhile back and usually avoided being spotted by the Marines unless I was in the open moving too fast.
I think it was the B infantry squads that have the 50mm mortars that I found to be deadly. I had great success firing on HT's. I'd usually damage or destroy the HT with the mortar in a few shots and cause serious casualties to the Marines in the same hex and force them to retreat.
Getting enough quality transport to deploy my troops was my main problem. Once deployed the 47mm AT guns did great against the Marine armor.
They could move into position on their own and avoid detection long enough to get enough hits to damage or retreat the armor I faced.
I thought the JA troops were a little to tough compared to the Marines but I'd have to play them some more to decide for sure.

While in the area, would you tell me if the Japs freeze under fire and get killed because they don't retreat ?? This has been happening while designing scenarios and Japs are at AIs hand. It is due to high experience/morale and rally that is in their national characters. I've found that 75-80 exp marines do see Japs and do kill them easily... Tell what you have noted, in pbems too.

The fact that the Japanese don't retreat is one of the ways to kill them. Once they are spotted you just fire at them until eliminated, never let up, they will just sit there and get chopped to pieces, where any other army would pop smoke and retreat out of the killing zone.

This sort of behavior is exactly why Hitler's "stand fast" rule didn't work. If you are getting plastered by fire, you move out of the way.
thanks, John.

yes its way to kill them but it makes creating scenario where AI handles Japs advance is really a pain. Making Japs to defence is another thing. That AI handles very good.

I have tested this thing few times by playing National Characteristics turned Off and it really makes scenario more like it should be. Japs have more experience than common Marine/Army-men so they do have advantage to junglefight anyway.

I would like to test this in pbem also. I can play Japs to see what they do. I'll take 1200 points you can take what you want. Create game and mail it to me. Anybody ?? <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
