What did you think of the 88s in the 1st show. They had a funny-looking setup, more like artillery than what they look like in SPWAW.

Also, while the show was good, I think it lacked showing how tough the aribourne troops had it in normandy.

They reported upon completing the mission that they weren't 88s but 105s. Just like every tank was called a Tiger by many G.I.s, every artillery piece started out an 88 <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Great show! Not to be missed. I'm sure it will be on DVD for Christmas (or slightly thereafter) at blockbuster (they have the Dune miniseries there from this summer).

I really like the way they film the action scenes now, the 'on-site' style, unfocused in your face, seems more true-to-life IMO. The portrayal of the horse drawn units is a good touch too, not all mechanized. Am taping the whole thing, like it alot!!

Will they replay those episodes this week?? This is the first I've heard of it. Damn!!

Just went to the HBO website and there is a schedule for the show. And yes, part one will be on again, and again! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I have already put the word out to my wife. Band of Brothers WILL be acquired as soon as it is released on DVD. I almost called up HBO at the 11th hour so I could watch it this week - but that would have been pushing it. <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">

I really enjoyed it. The second part was over before I knew it. I like the way it was filmed, especially when they were firing on the artilery positions and German bullets were splintering the bushs Easy Co. was hidden in. It also was a nice touch about the 88's/105's. I knew there would be some posts about that and was wondering how many viewers "got it". I signed up for HBO to watch the Sopranos (which is great) and was pumped to see that Band of Brothers was going to be shown this fall. I know where I'll be for the next 10 Sunday evenings.

There was an article in the Telegraph about 3 weeks ago, which said the BBC's probably going to pass. Their view is it's too "narrow scope" for the audience share they have. Understandable-I wouldn't see, say, A&E buying an eight-part series on the 1st Airborne Division either...

Hey Grumble... I have a real smile on my face here... have you ever watched BBC... I think they have a audience litmus test of about five expected viewers for their programing.

Yeah, been to the UK frequently.
That USED to be true, but the BBC actually has to make money now and is doing the same type of lowest-common-denominator programming that the US networks are notorious for.
Review any back issues of the Times or Daily Telegraph and you'll see both editorial and reader slams against the "Americanization" of the BBC programming strategy...

I thought I read that it would be on BBC2 not BBC1.

Is it really good? They didn't "Hollywood" it up?
Just wondering if it would be OK for my older kids to watch. I don't have cable or HBO, but I could always get someone to tape it for me.

It kicks ass. Read the book, it makes the whole thing a lot more comprehensible.. not that it isn't, but the tactical situations that are covered are better understood if the text is in your head as well...

Yes!..Please read the book if you want to understand how RIGHT they have gotten it so far..The original mission was to "knock out" an 88 btty but it di turn out to be 105's..all the equipment was prety good looking,right to the "stacks" on the back o the aerly model "with ear" gun mantlet Sherman "funnies"...also,soon after landing,the boys start to go one direction and smartly change their minds when the VERY distinctive sound of anmg42 rips directly in front of them,and lights up the sky..(yes,a single firearm will do that on a drk night,try it sometime and see how quick you lose your night vision..i'm not so sure you want pre-teens to se it yet,lotsa colorful language but the again,thisis meant to be "realistic,and NOT HOLLYWOOD!!!!..(even Patton failed to have any Shermans as i recall,mostly m24's and m48's i believe..and note the 2lb block of tnt the guys all carried....that's in damn few books but every swingin' ---- was issued one for d-day.... <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

I would watch it once before letting my kids watch it - most of the casualties are VERY realistic, not particularly gruesome, but I think its "TV13".

Oh no, these BBC posts have got me worried now...I've got to see this!!! Guess the fallback is buy the DVD when/if it's released. I knew there was a good reason I brought a multi region DVD player <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

I'm off to explore the BBC website to look for clues....
