8.3 Crash when setting range

When trying to set the firing range using the keyboard shortcut (Y key), the game freezes and I have to kill it using task manager. Is this a known bug in 8.3?

Has happened to me many, many, MANY times. Immensely frustrating when you press "Y" just that one time to many from selecting opportunity fire in the opponent's turn! [:@]

I tested this, and it works properly. Setanta, we need to know your PC specs, and what version of DirectX you have. I'm no tech guru, but the experts will want to know this information.

Well, for my part (and this bug bites me every single time I press "Y" in my own turn), I run SP: WaW on a 2.8 GHz P4, with 1 Gb RAM, and a 128 Mb GeForce 4200, with DirectX 9.0c.

I've got Intel PC 2.8GHz, WinXP with SP2, DirectX 9.0, Nvidia Geforce FX5200 with driver 71.89

May have something to do with video driver - stranger things have happened, especially on the battlefield!

I second the video driver being the culprit.

I've run SP:WAW on a Win98 machine for a long time without any problems.
Then, one day, problems running my AMV's & SP:WAW's crash to desktop while setting range prompted me to reload my OS.
I've switched to WinXP without any problems so far, been running well for a month now.

Nvidia--their newer drivers often have problems with older games. I recommend a rollback to an older driver. This should solve the problem.

Sorted! I rolled back to 44.03 and I can set the range now using the Y key.

That's great, Sentana. I had the same problem with Silent Hunter II and my old PC's Nvidia driver. For that game, I had to use version 45.23--newer ones were crap. This version won't work for SPWaW? It did for me, but PCs can be finicky . If 44.03 works, then stick with it.

I'm having this problem with 8.4. I switched to Win98 Compatibility mode. Any suggestions?
