I'll kick it off: M16 MGMC for the obscene amounts of firepower it can unleash against enemy infantry. They didn't call it the Meatchopper for nothing!

I would have to say the KV tank. Its ability to shrug off its early war opponents like mosquitos is too cool.

I would vote for a 1939 to 1941-era U.S. Marine, 0311, carring a Springfield. These guys gave us Yantze River Patrol, Bataan, Wake, and Guadalcanal. Many were China Marines. Gotta be the toughest breed of them all! [&o]

Good answer, Bruce. These guys are the true "Old Breed". However, for a particular weapon, I went on at length in another thread about the Sherman flame-tank (POA CWS 75-H1), which placed a POA flamethrower in the 75mm tube. While it delivered a horrible death to the enemy, it definitely saved the lives of many Marines in the desperate battles of 1945.

Yeah, and if you want proof of that, try Recon's (Bruce H) campaign, China Marines! Makes me think of the old Steve McQueen movie. You can get some real old fashioned action there!

For those who might not have it, how can they get it Bruce? Got it posted anywhere currently?

I kinda like the plain old PZIV with the long 75 (75mmL48) It had good speed, highly accurate, good armor. It was fairly reliable. Overall a very good tank, for its time. of course it was used beyond its time frame and was overpowered by the 76 shermans and the T34/85s.

I'll do the cat thing. I like anything with an 88mm gun. They just kick butt!![:'(][;)]

Any unit with a gun of 150mm and better is also great against a mostly infatry force. Always a big OWEEEE!! there.[:D]

Honorable mention to the Jagdpanther. Damn pretty machine.

Well, I mentioned a Marine vehicle (Sherman Flamer), but my favorite UNIT is the Marine F-series squad (with M1 Garands, BARx3, and either flamethrower or satchel charge in slot 3). I call these guys "the wrecking crew", and indeed they were.

I can't pick one for the Germans. Looking at their weapons array, I'm reminded of the famous line by The Joker in the Tim Burton "Batman"--"Where does he get all of these neat toys?" [:D]

First off, M1 grand rifle, have Norinco modern alloy copy that I've made 4,6,and 800yrd kills with in hunting deer here in saskatchewan with OPEN SIGHTS gentlemen!!! and the Bazooka series from any nation, got to do some shooting with canadas equivilant which was the Karl Gustov 87mm shoulder fired recoilless rifle. and bear witness to the fact that if I could line up on a squad of clustered man targets in a tight say 5-8 meter circle and plop a AP canister shell into the centre of em,, ,, theres nothing left but confetti guys, and the mobility that I had in my unit when I was active made our 9-12 man squads very formitable and versitile. RT one AT weapon per squad in them days.

George Patton loved the M1 Garand Rifle, and the lighter M1 Carbine had many adherents. Sorry to stray off-topic, but the Thompson SMG kept its popularity throughout the war, whether it was an official TOE issue or not. Personally, given the choice between the carbine or the Thompson, I'd probably opt for the Thompson--at close range (50-100 yards), you have a significant stand-off personal weapon.

My Dad (8th Army - Royal Engineers - in from the begining) told me when I was a pup (I was gushing at the time about whatever war movie I had just seen) that the Thompson was next to useless. He laughed about it.

The thing was very heavy and almost impossible to hit anything that was 50 yards away.
In his words a pistol would be better in any sort of fight.

He liked his rifle.

Yes, I agree-- The Pz I is a great infantry killer, so I made (for the early days) a composite Panzer Platoon of three Pz IIs and two Pz Is for long campaign core force construction. Look at the actual TOEs for the '39 panzer units--this adapted TOE of mine isn't far removed from the real thing.

I'll go with the M16 halftrack also when fighting in the Pacific. They are really good for taking out tons of Japanese infantry. Another good weapon in the Pacific was the M7 SPH. It was a good bunker buster, when used as an assault gun.
