hmmm ok i see they are no longer produced anywhere but i guess they remain in the display???
another thing though...
i see several planes require engines that are not produced such as Nissan and Toyoda.
How does the AI handle this? It cant produce the planes???

Hmmm... The AI will not build those aircraft.
If we do an AI optimized release i will put a couple of factories r&d producing the advanced engines.

A stop-gap fix would be for an allied player to switch to two player for a turn every once in a blue moon and adjust the Jap production.

why not just have the factories producing the correct engines for those groups so those planes will be produced??? nissan, toyoda, etc...
...and have other factories producing or researching those plane types...
would this not work???

I will in the AI version but i did not want this in the main version.
Historically airframes were not a problem for Japan to produce, engines howver were a disaster.
When the more advanced Mitsubishi and Nakajima engines came out Japan had to make hard decisions whether to convert existing engine production sites to the new engines. To do so would slow the production of existing units so Japan only converted a limited portion of her engine factories to the advanced types.
I wanted to leave these chices for a Japanese player, thus these engines are not in production at game start.

If one was going to do that, how would one enter it in the editor?
Thanks

I would just add 1 - 100 size factory in Nagoya on r&d making Adv Mitsubishi engines and 1 - 80 size factory in Kanazawa or somewhere like that making Adv Nakajima engines.
These are both changes in the 'locations' file.
This would give the AI some ability later in the game to build advanced engines.

I am not sure of what you mean by setting the factory on r&d. Does that mean the the size of the factory is listed in the Disabled (DIS) column and not in the Number (NUM) column?
Thank you.

Yes, they have to be listed as disabled.
