Display Error/Plato MFC error

Just installed it.

There seems to be no option to set display resolution? On my system, the main map stops displaying somewhere south of the Channel; above that line, everything is fine, but below that it's all solid black. The units and fortress icons, etc. are there but no map at all, nada.

Also, when I exit, I get a "Plato MFC" error, whatever that is.

The map display thing makes the game unplayable and a waste of $40 so far, sadly. I will attempt it at another resolution but I resent having to change res from 1600x1200 on my 20" flatpanel (which works fine with the Koios games and the SSG games, etc.) just to play.

EDIT: Doesn't matter which resolution I use, it still refuses to display below the English Channel. ATI 9800 Pro, Viewsonic VP201s.

Given that there is no way to get a refund this is rather distressing. I have a half dozen or more Matrix games and this is the first one I've had that simply does not work.

Sorry to hear that, Wombat; it works fine for me (aside from that error on exit). Sounds like it doesn't like your resolution...[&:]

I had this as well on my laptop that normally has 1280x800 resolution (on one screen and 1280x1024 on the secondary display). Usually games switch from this to 1024x768 w/ no problem if it's needed. It went into the game w/ no problem but then had this error when I tried to exit.

I installed on another machine with a normal 1280x1024 display. Resolution switched into and back out of the game with no problems.

Perhaps a driver problem, then?

I went back to the stock ATI drivers, Catalyst 5.6, and no change.

The map display is fine until it...stops, and you can see a colored line, yellow then red, at the bottom of the displayed map area, and then just black. It's as if it cuts off and the graphic layer vanishes.

The Plato MFC error I have no idea about, and it only happens on exit though I have no idea if it's related.

EDIT: It works fine on my widescreen laptop, which has an Nvidia graphics GPU. While not conclusive, this suggests to me that there is an issue with ATI cards perhaps. Both machines use AMD CPUs for what it's worth. I would love to hear from other ATI users whether they have this issue or not.

EDIT REDUX: Wo0T! Fixed it. The EuGame32_3.pcx file on my desktop was, somehow, corrupt--it was truncated. The one from the instal on my laptop, though reporting the same file size, was fine, and I simply recopied it back over the network to the desktop. How on EARTH the file was corrupt on one machine and not the other is beyond me--they came from the same installer, after all. But whatever, it works, and I'm happy.

Such things can happen if you have security software like a virus scanners / siftware firewalls etc. running in the background during the installation. We recommend to turn of such things for the installation.

Could well be, though both machines had the same AVG virus scan going. Go figure. Anyhow, the game looks neato.

Resolution is set at 1024x768 for CoG, but we've had it running fine on a variety of resolutions, including my 1280x1024 desktop and 1680x1050 laptop. I'll ask the developer to look into any reported resolution issues.

Once I replaced the corrupted/truncated .pcx file, it runs fine, thankfully.

To the point:
The game works OK for me but everytime i exit i get the same error Wombat reported: Plato MFC error.
By the way, another guy has reported the same error on exiting in a Games forum where we live (Spain)
Maybe the developer shoud check whats this...
Anyway, the game seems cool![8D]

Otherwise the game works just fine for me.

We are not able to reliably duplicate the exit error yet, but it is being worked on. This seems to happen sometimes when exiting from the main map. I would suggest as a work-around using "end game" when on the game map, then using exit from the main menu. This seems to resolve the issue until we have a fix.

I had my first Plato MFC error pressing the button "Exit" to leave the game. This happens always, leaving the game. One time the same occurs during a major Detail Battle. Suddenly the prompt appeared - the game crashed - an then I found myself back on the window screen.

Nevertheless this is a real great in depth game.
