Ok, I've finally gotten the rules down, now I'm working on strategy. If anyone could tell me how to get off on the right foot as the Western Allies I would greatly appreciate it. All I know so far is to research ASW like a madman. Darn Soviets took Italy right after I invaded France [X(]

Well add the US is the primary source of early research. If not playing advanced supply, they are great for supply also.
If you think a couple of extra CVs would be nice start them ASAP in the USA. A couple more can really help with Japan.
The transport fleet is always a headache. It can't hurt to have some spares.
The commonwealth of Australia and India are a great source of troops. The production and population are very much in sync. I love having India heavy on infantry and artillery. Depending on what type of supply your are playing with India may build some supply...
I am starting to like taking Persia with the UK ASAP. Russia can never have enough supply, and even 10 a turn helps after opening the route.

I'm using the simple supply. I had a total of 10 Carriers against Japan. Is that over kill? I took Persia also, early in the game and took Spain too, and invaded France from there.

Keep in mind however that taking Persia or Afganistan early does allow Germany to invade Turkey without triggering war with USSR. Allied players tend to forget this fact, and if Germany is on the ball, they can jump on Turkey and really get some Middle east pressure on....

Good point RTDouglas. How about the carriers though? Should I throw everything I can make against the Japanese or just hold them off and use my carriers to help with landings in Europe?

Is there any where to get the land based path open and at least get 10 supply a turn going to Russia? Getting supply via Norway opens up way to many sub attack headahces.

If you are playing simple supplies (I assume so since you mention 10 per turn) a "gamey" trick might be to
- setup the transport chain
- give the 50 supplies to Russia
- retract the transport chain
all within your turn.
That way the subs can only attack you if they remain at see - meaning your destroyers atleast get first crack at hitting them.

Won't that use up the transports movement points, leavng them stuck?
If not: then that's yet another reason to play with advanced supply only - the way it was meant to be played and the way REAL men play!
