Hi,

I'm not sure to understand the exact signification word "forage/foraging". I thought it means something like "serching for food".

Ok, well ... but where does the food comes from concretely ? do soldiers go pick-up mushrooms in the woods lol ? :-)

Another question, (this one is more important)...

The manual says 1.6.2:
"Players may specify whether units are us-
ing supply depots (if depots are available)or
whether the units will forage for supplies."

What if "supply" is selected and there is no depot around ? Does the unit starts "foraging" ? Is there any kind of priorities between "supply" and "forage" ?

If a unit is set for supply, it will draw supply if there is a depot or supply source available. If there is none, it will forage.

If the unit is set to forage, it will forage regardless of whether a supply source is available or not.

with the supply depot u can feed large amount of troops..
foraging sustain only the number of troops indicated in the province bar (max that i have seen, 80k).
So, in peace time u can spread your units among the provinces and forage'em... but when u gather a large army, u need a depot [;)]

I imagine foraging to be the local population basically feeding the troops. Shop owners and farmers being told to supply the troops with food, or something along those lines. However that would only go so far and for large armies a supply network of rations, etc.. would be needed.

I'm not sure how that would work for ammunition, but I think the idea is a good one. In general a province would be able to support a small garrison of troops without much strain on the budget, but large armies would become immensely costly to maintain.

Is there a negative against foraging countries. France did quite a lot!

Foraging troops appropriated food from local peasantry.
