Is it me or does the AI seem to rout/surrender/retreat too much???

I had a battle where we were even in men and casualties but the only way I won was because the AI ran.... [&:]
For whatever reason this happens a lot. The AI has a very good chance of beating me but just runs away!?!

The AI loses because it thinks cavalry are tanks to be charged at every infantry unit nearby to make it form square, even though it has no guns or infantry in line to take advantage of the target.

I agree Tanaka, as I pointed out another thread it seems like the AI frequently just runs away right when the battle is about to start -- I don't get it either. It is very hard to lose tactical battles right now -- my suggestions are:
a) Have AI infantry form line before engaging
b) a better check on enemy cavalry (Ney at Waterloo is always in charge!)
c) Have AI "hang in there" for battles somewhat longer
d) have enemy forces clump a little more, they get too spread out and can be destroyed in detail.
