Assorted Questions

First off kudos to the designer for a great and complex game. I have only scratched the surface but already I can see and appreciate the work of a real historical simulation.
Anyways I have a few questions:
How do I set parameters for Trade after I turn on the Trade Expert? I thought by setting policy re Trade that the Trade Expert would follow those but it doesn't seem to work. For example as France when I first open the Set Policy screen everything is ticked, so I untick Money, Iron, Food and Textiles for Export for example. That means the AI won't export those goods right? Well the AI turns around and sets up a trade route with Turkey for some cotton in exchange for Money which I specified shouldn't be an export. Am I missing something?
Is there any "strategy" when playing the Quick Battles in the setup of your forces? The manual doesn't seem to touch on this and I am not getting it. How come at times I cannot 'place' all of my units? IE some are left in the Routed area. Will units fire if there is another unit directly in front of it? It doesn't appear so. Any tips would be welcome.
How come there isn't a savegame feature in Detailed Battles? Or if there is one I can't seem to find it. I played one only and really liked it but don't always have the necessary time.
Playing the 1805 Scenario as France and I want to lay seige in Hanover but nothing develops even after giving the order "Charge the Walls". Britain is an enemy so I don't see why nothing is happening there. What do I need to do to conquer Hanover?
Anyways time to dive back in. Thanks in advance for the responses.

- There isn't one at the moment, but it seems to be near the top of the list of additions that most here would like to see patched, so I would think there's a good chance we will get one.

- I noticed a similar thing when I had French troops in Hanover. For two turns, nothing happened at all, then the siege suddenly started. Sorry I can't be any more help.

Yes there is some strategy and you should be able to find info regarding how it works on pages 27-36. Specifically it goes over the strength and weaknesses of the differing kinds of units in quick combat and the differences of units that are in the attack/defense/charge areas of the battle board. It also explains the rock/paper/scissors type issues regarding a unit in the attack column attacking a unit in the defend column and so forth.
The manual will also explain why some units are in the routed area at the start of the fight.

No save game feature at this time, don't know why.

Do you have enough troops to start the siege?

Not sure on that one... might be a bug.

I found that if you have a diplomat in the same province, the army will not initiate the siege.

I too am concerned about the failure of "Set Policy" to function as it has been expected to. Playing Britain, I was a bit annoyed to hv to click away the trade offers other nations kept bombarding me with.

Set Policy only works when the trade expert is turned on.

I almost always have a diplomat in a province i'm going to siege to either spy, pressure peace, incite revolt etc.
I think the problem is you didn't have enough troops ie:replacements and/or supplies so when your units were up to strength that's when the siege started.

Well had a go at the manaul again tonight and realized there was a lot more to Quickbattles than I had remembered! I will look again at the troops beseiging Hanover but I know I attached another Infantry and Artillery Division and they were set to forage. Also the Trade Expert was turned on in my case but it still overrode my decision not to export money. In fact last night while playing I cancelled the Trade Agreement the AI set up and specified not to import cotton in addition not to export money. Well it appears something worked as the AI set up another trade this time for Turkish Textiles in exchange for Money again! Lol:P
Anyways thanks for the insights.
