Skip Intro scene

Hi,

Despite the obvious romantic aspect of the Napoleonic paintings showing-up when the game starts, Idon't like it :-) (and why are there "subliminal" images showing woman in it ? LOL)

Also, i have the feeling that it slows down the system at start-up of the game so I would like to skip it.

How can I do that ?

I think I hit ESC and it worked. Or maybe just left-clicked on the pictures.

I am not talking about matrix logo. Matrix logo can be skiped with ESC. But the screens with music which appear after the game started... here, for me, esp or clic doesn't work.

I *THINK* you are referring to the game load screen. There is a picture shown as the game loads itself with a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. It does take longer than one might desire, but I believe the time it takes is required and the picture is just there to decorate the screen while you wait.

If you rename the video file in your installation, it should skip playing the video. The file is intro.avi in the \Video sub-folder of your CoG installation.

You could always replace it with the Bullet Erik. [:'(][:)][:D]

two of the three video files can be deleted without problem - the matrix and the wc intro movies

deleting the third one causes a file not found error on the initial screen - this is the one that the OP is talking about

Thanks Erik ! it's much beter like that. I'm not surprise to see that the file is 28 MO big ! I understand better why it slowed down my system at start-up (opening 28 MO can take time if the system is a bit busy, especially at the game start-up when lot of files are opening). Now I have a "MCI error" message but I can live with it ;-)
Thx

Ah, it used to handle the missing video more gracefully, just put up a background image instead. Didn't realize it would give you an error but as long as you're fine with that, I'm happy. [8D]

Maybe you could put a really small/short avi file (named "intro.avi") in its place to avoid the error? Video of your kids or something [:)]

I may try that when I get home.

One thing I like about Matrix Games, is their titles don't encrypt the media files as much as other publishers/developers. Has its good and bad points.

I can never see the point of those intro movies, complete waste of time and resources IMO. 1st thing I do is see if I can delete/rename them. It's good to see that at least we can do that with CoG - some games I've bought you couldn't... [:(]

Steve.

That works. Just put a small, short avi in the folder and name it intro.avi. Actually I put 3 copies in, named intro and whatever the other two avis are and it worked with no error.

It still takes a while for that green thermometer loading all the game info, though.

That's what was confusing me about this entire thread...the intro scenes were simply giving you something to look at while the game loads, and as far as I could tell from my own experiment, removing them did not reduce the load times at all...I put them back
