and it says i cannot afford to pay for and suppy some units...

so what does this mean???

i just lose some men to foraging???

If you suffer losses in combat, they won't be replaced either. This won't be too bad for a couple battles, but later on it can cause problems when your infantry units go below 2k strength and disband.

And people wonder why so many national leaders embezzle funds. Not only do you get to keep the money, but there are fewer guards left to chase after you once you skip town. Now it all makes sense.

Did I not also read that if a unit is not paid, the units Moral will drop permanently by a certain amount.

My style of play is to generate as little troops of as high a quality as possible. I absolutly try to avoid any situation that drops my troops moral.

Would scaling back military readiness go a way to lowering troops' morale too?

SOME OF THE COMMENTS ON THIS THREAD ARE WRONG

a) If you can't afford to SUPPLY some units, then those units forage, and you may take forage losses. No big deal.
b) If you can't afford to pay for the draft, then troops in the draft pool disperse rather than being sent out as reinfrocements. This is more of a deal, since they probably have higher morale, and some of them you have been paying to train for quite some time. An absence of reinforcements will eventually lead to your units going sub-4000 and hence suffering penalties in quick combat, and then down so low the division is disbanded.
c) If you can't afford the UPKEEP on some units (this equates to paying them, I suppose), there are massive dissertions until the division dissolves entirely.

Sequentially, upkeep comes out first, then draft, and finally supply at the end.
Note that while upkeep and draft are just cash, supply is cash and food.

Lack of supply, reinforcements and/or upkeep do NOT affect a units morale on the strategic map themselves (although there are flow on effects). Military readiness affects maximum troop size, but does not affect morale.

(Although as a second order effect, if lower readiness allowed cash to be available to pay for the draft and hence for high quality reinforcements to be put into units, then I suppose it could be said to have raised the morale of the unit in an indirect way.)

Scaling military readiness changes the max strength of all the units, naval or earth-bound.
Where would those soldiers made redundant by the cut in military readiness go, if the units they belonged to were already up to maximum strength? Would they go back to the cities and swell the population?

I have seen comments from ericbabe that these guys do swell your civilian population, helping your economy, but havenot validated this myself.

If they don't really like to return to tend to farmlands or man factories, at least they may go back to training academies where they originated in the first place.
