Tech: Major bug allows super acccellerated tech

Try this - playing Germany and using Sub torp tech for the example.
Spr 40: production
- Tech +1 to Sub torp
- build another 2 tech pts but dont use those
Sum 40: movement
- Tech +2 to Sub torp (its now at 3)
Sum 40: production
- Tech +3 to Sub torp its now at 6)
- Build some more unused tech pts
Viola - tech done in half the time. I seriously doubt thats intended.
Mail sent to Paul with a save showing the problem for the purpose of debugging.

The best solution to fix this would be if the research button is disabled (greyed out) during the movement phase. This would also fix the minus research bug which happened to me when trying to research during the movement phase by fault.

Absolutely. The fix appears quite straightforward - but it takes a patch to happen. Infact, I discovered this bug when trying to duplicate the bug you mention in order to get that documented and fixed.
For now we just have to trust each other not to (ab)use this bug to catch up on tech I suppose - unless you consider it a feature.
I actually considered not posting this bug publically and only reporting it per mail - but decided its still better to have everything out in the open.

Thanks for the bug report. That's a nasty bug. Research is not supposed to be allowed during the movement phase. We'll be sure to fix this.

But please don't "grey out" the research button while in movement phase - I often have a look at the research screen when making a decision to attack a specific area or not, i.e. to see whether it might be worthwhile to wait another round for increased tech level.

It won't be "greyed out" - just inoperable. This fix is already implemented in the TCP/IP patch. That patch is several weeks away though.
