Yes please - screenshot. I have heard of this before, but didn't track it down.
I have been able to build lancers as Britain (and they are very cool!)
It interests me why historically some countries didn't make what the other countries had, if the latter proved to be a winner worth modelling on. Was it because the trade barriers were so high (no EU-like inner market, right?) that some countries couldn't buy the unique material some kinds of units were made of? :pORIGINAL: Reg Pither

I think this has been mentioned before regarding Cossacks, but it would add to the historical flavour of the game if certain types of unit could only be produced by those who produced them historically. So Britain would be about the only power who couldn't build lancers. I don't know how that would reflect overall game balance, but it would improve the game slightly for me. [:)]

Then we may as well follow history's footsteps and get them built after 1809, or as late as 1816. *(^,^)*ORIGINAL: Reg Pither

I think that in the case of Lancers, Britain and others saw them as some sort of medieval, obselete weapon, so never built any. It was only after the success of Russian and, in particular, Polish Lancers that everyone thought it would be a good idea to have some of their own. France in 1809 I believe, but Britain not until 1816 when some of the Light Dragoon units were converted.
Yes, but I prefer to have a chance to fight with what the others can just stare at in awe but can't emulate. :pORIGINAL: Reg Pither
Yes, I'd vote for that. [;)]
But I suppose the whole point of a game like this is that it gives us a chance to change history and do things that the nations didn't do, so I don't think there's much chance of my wishes being catered for.
