How long you need for a turn?

As WaW will soon be playable TCIP I just wonder how long you need for a turn in a 1 vs 1 game. I wanted to start this as a poll but it seems i need a certain number of posts to be allowed or maybe only admins can do polls.

I have to admit that i m a rather slow player and therefore hardly suited for TCIP. Whilst i m rather quick during the first turns, midgame turns take me arround 30-40 min as Axis and 40-50 min as allied. Maybe i can improve my performance a bit as i m still a newby playing my first Pbem games atm.

About the same for me.

If I play faster I dont feel any satisfaction - I merely feel I am pushing counters the same way I have done many times before.

I do think though that being able to see your oppenents moves will mean you do quite a bit of planning before its actually your turn. We shall see if thats enough to cut the time down to a reasonable level.

[;)] Dragonheart you need even for the moves in SC 30-40 minutes. I think you are giving a bad example.....

Just kidding. I think 15-20 min for me per move.

Undoubtedly, TCIP play will be faster than turn-a-day (I Wish!) PBEM...
About 20-30 minutes, depending on the situation of course.

This is really dependant on situation. I was just faced with a situation that took me 4 days to finaly resolve what I would do. You can not do this to anyone playing on line, but I suspect you will need to be quick in the 15 minute time frame, should make for lots of mistakes on both sides and interesting games.

My thinking is that TCP/IP will require a different style of play in order to keep it moving fast enough (except for those that want to play more involved games over many sessions by using the save capability). If I was playing TCP/IP and wanted to get a lot of turns done, I'd play with fog of war off and the standard supply rules. Using standard supply rules will speed up the game tremendously, although I realize that this makes for a different game. With fog of war off you would have time during other player's moves to better plan your next moves. With both of these items you could safely set the timer fairly low and keep the game moving along quickly. Players would get used to making less calculated moves and would have to play more intuitively (not my usual style, but one more suited to a social beer & pretzels evening of wargaming). Of course this is just my preference for TCP/IP gaming, especially given family time constraints.

Will there be a "timer" built into TCP/IP that automatically switches players after a set time limit? I hope so. A league can be built around 10 minute turns, 15 min, 30 min, etc...

A time limit that can be decided upon at the start of the game, maybe with a pause feature, that both players have to agree to, in case of phone/door/emergency etc...

That is a MUST IMHO, or there is alot of leeway for people to abuse the system, and ruin the game for other online players. Go play some MSN online games. People who are loosing just get up and leave their computer, hoping for a quit/win from the other players.

Also, any way to have a "ranking" system? [;)]

Also, I think most countries except for WA are pretty easy to play a turn with in 10-15 min. WA has so much logistyics that longer is required.

I already know that I am not suited to tcp play. I have only played 1on1 games so far and my files take me at least an hour for me to do. What I enjoy most about playing this game is the thinking and planning I do before I even move a single unit.

Ahhh but the joy that comes from seeing a plan work as intended /priceless/
Then there is the 'Doh! I should not have done that because now I can not do this'

Before USA and Russia enter----10-15 minutes depending on how bad the situation is, and how much I plan to do.
After the USA enters-- 15-20 minutes per turn.

There needs to be a LOUD alarm go off at the change of every players turn. It needs to be heard even if the game is minimized. This way, people can do things around the house, etc., and not have to watch the screen to see when its their turn. If they can hear it even when the game is minmized, they can surf, or post here, etc, while waiting for their opponent to finish up their turn.



Edit- As more time passes, and you play more games, you will need to think less. You will already know what you want to do, and you will start to recognize what yur opponent is doing earleir, from having seen it before. This will make turns go MUCH faster. Remember, the game is still relatively new, that makes turn take a LOT longer.
