Figured I'd post this here for reference since it came up in the main forum section as part of another thread.

The manual says you cannot detach subordinate units from protectorate armies (such as the two Egyptian Armies the Turks begin with). This is true, unless you give the subordinate units an "Auto Join..." order to a nearby city.

The next turn you can move the detached units normally as all other units.
