How to get Upgrade ???

Sorry for this question but I did not find the way to select upgrade...
Is it automatic or do I have to select an upgrade somewhere in the interface an spent ressource and time to get it???

Hi Obenoit!
To get upgrades you'll need more Barracks and Culture improvements in your territories. Once you've achieved a certain level, you'll get an upgrade. A big menu will pop up giving you a number of choices.

In Economy screen, Military Training button, you get a pop up window with a number on top and a list of upgrades.
You deserve as many upgrades as the integer part of the number on top. So if it say 6.98 then you deserve 6 upgrades.
The max upgrades you are allowed are 20 (but they say in next patch it will be extended to 40).
If you have less upgrades than you deserve, at begining of january, april, july and october a popup window will ask you what upgrade you want (only one upgrade each time, so if you have 6 and you deserve 8, you will only get one).
That new upgrade will be efective at the begining of the next turn.
Each level of barracks and culture adds to the number of upgrades:

I would love to know how long it takes for a certain upgrade till it starts to come into effect.

I think it comes into effect at the start of your next turn, units do not need to retrain.
