Am I not drafting enough people?

I'm playing a game where I've have no major combats until 1809. I've added a few provinces, along with a few protectorates. So, I haven't been drafting many men. Just buying lots of luxuries to keep the ppl happy.

My problem is food. Despite the fact that I'm upgrading farms as fast as I can afford, I'm always just one step ahead of hunger. For instance, on my last check, I was creating 151 food though my ppl needed 180 per turn. I had 82 in the reserve.

I know I can starve some to death, but this is hard on the morale I've been struggling to keep up by trading from every province, every turn.

I've been keeping my army dispersed and foraging.

1. Does the draft pool have to be fed from your available resources? If not, I'll draft more.

2. Is anyone able to save much more than 2,000 money without taxing at 30% throughout the whole game? I find the first two years I'm almost always at peace until I can get revenue up.

I reckon that if you have the food to avoid surrender forced by insurrectionists, you need at least 1,000$ to fight a year-long campaign.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Kick the garrisons out into the countryside - garrisons automatically get supplied, and you should be supplying militia. (There is a case for putting artillry and cavalry into garrison). This will MASSIVELY lighten your food problems, and help with cash too!

Thanks for that tipm dude. I've been doing it a bit, but usually leaving just one unit in Garrison. Here's another tip I need. I work hard to inherit a large Saxon cavalry corps with a bit of infantry in it. Unfortunately, I can't spread it around...for the game won't let me.

So, I'm continually checking to see if those guys aren't deserting. They usually don't die or leave unless the weather gets bad...rain or snow in the province. Is there any way around this? I never see a Saxon depot, and they're always at full strength.

they will use your depot if you want

otherwise just put them into a high forage province

you think you got problems think of the poor turk with his two egyptian armies each with 70k [:D]

Yeah, but the Turks wants those guys to die off because they are crap compared to the new draftees that will replace them.
