While experimenting with trade, I hit the toggle button on the trade screen, which swithced the Active trade agreement to "Broken." I hit it again, to toggle it back, but it would not change. I hit Cancel and the screen closed, but when I reopened it, the "Broken" was still there.

You seem to heve cancelled the trade agreement... we do not have an undo option yet.. possibly in the second patch.
