Any news on the resolution problem (people running LCD 1280x1024)?

Sorry for asking about this again...but it is the bane of my life this LCD resolution problem. Happens with other games as well.

Which problem is this? I'm running the game on a 1280x1024 LCD.

I don't think you are...and if you are, then a fix has been found.
My screen is 1280x1024 and the game only supports up to 1024x768. Because that resolution is not the native resolution for the monitor, the text looks quite blurry.
I suspect your monitor is running at 1280x1024, but I doubt your game is.
I found HOI2 to be exactly the same...makes the text almost unreadable.
Sorry - re-read your post. It's not that the game won't run on that resolution LCD...it's the fact the text is very difficult to read because the display is distorted to fit (game forced to run at 1024x768 - monitor native is 1280x1024). HOI2 you can run in a window...this apparently not

I've never noticed it to be particularly blurry. Not as crisp as other games that use the native resolution, of course, but I just assumed it was part of the washed out, aged look of the game, and that the fonts used were supposed to look like that. Having said that, I've suggested the option to change resolution to allow more of the map to be visible, so if it made it look better as well that would be very welcome. [:)]

Have you tried switching between allowing your monitor to interpolate and having your vide card do it? There's no "fix" for this other than possibly creating a windowed mode in the future. I'm running CoG here on a 1280x1024 as well, with my video adapter doing the interpolating and it looks great.

- Erik

Hi Erik...long time no speak.
If I knew what you were talking about, I'd give it a go!
I'll have a look tonight about this interpolating stuff and see what I can suss.
I have a Geforce 128MB 6600GT by the way.

My laptop runs native at 1900 x 1200 widescreen and COG doesn't look especially crisp, but it is not bad. My complaint is that unlike every other game I play, it doesnt release the hold on the screen resolution when I alt-tab into another open window. I generally keep my internet browser open and COG changes the resolution to 1024 x 768 and it does not look as good. Is there a way to change this behavior?
Thanks
BDH

Not presently. We may be able to return to native resolution on tab-out... I'll put this on my list.

Here's an idea. Some games give the player a choice of various resolutions for full window play. Maybe that would work. I know it would be nice to see more of the map.
I have a 15" laptop with a native resolution of 1280x1024 but running it makes everything, especially type on the internet, so small I can't use it. How do you folks see anything on a laptop? Or maybe I'm just getting old and my eyes don't work that well anymore?

Hi Erik,
I encountered resolution problems as well (the new Patch installed). Most of the Windows (Diplomacy, Economy..) are completly unreadable. I guess, the problem are the Nvidia cards (i have a Geforce 5500) rather then the LCD-Monitor with 1260 x 1024.
Other problems to be fixed: Prussia subsides eof (end of file) with 34 $.
AI-Behaviour: France conquers Austria in 1805, only to surrender to a british attack on Paris (Ile de France) one month later. Realism is very important for a strategic simulation!
Could be a great game, but in my opinion is not finished. I hope, further patches improve the problems.
Greetings from Germany!

I'm running the game on a 15,4" ( 1280x800 native res. ) with interpolation.
It seems to run ok but fonts got a bit of blur effect, the same you see than you force using of antialias for your desktop in microsoft windows.
The best should be a windowed mode, as in War in the Pacific.
It's 2005 and there are a lot of LCD and widescreen users here and out of there. [;)]
