Winning with Japan without autovictory/enddate

Okay, just brought the game because on the demo, I've been playing this for close to 16 hours straight, with autovictory and end date off, and i'm starting to wonder....

Is it even possible for Japan to win by taking over the world? No matter what I do Germany always falls and then I'm screwed as all those WA units come for me. I even managed to obliterate Russia one game, but it still didn't save me from the WA power.

Does anybody have any tips or anything on if its possible?

Realistically no. If Germany is ineffective & both Russia & W.Allies concentrate upon Japan for an extended period of time, there can only be one outcome. Japan has neither the manpower nor the production to match up to them.

In my opinion Japan does best by supporting the success of Germany whilst staying alive itself.

In general terms my standard Japanese game plan is:

1. Reduce Chinese production to zero
2. Reduce Chinese military forces to negligible
3. Participate in dual-invasion of Russia
4. Take the Dutch East Indies & begin resource point repairing
5. Stalemate the US Pacific fleet, letting it come to me so I can employ my bombers & fighters to support the IJN

These 5 steps can put Japan in a strong position, with good production, having increased the liklihood of a Russian collapse & occupied a significant amount of W.Allied production in the Pacific war.

It is, apparently, possible - some months ago some guys posted the world map painted in Japanese red. But it's not how this game is meant to be played.

Realistically, Axis powers can win on auto victory. With no AV, and no time limit, you have to realise Allied powers strength will inevitable rise, and Axis powers strength will fall from mid-43 (at the latest).

Also, if you play only as Japanese, you have to realise you play as the weaker of two powers in the Axis team. In WAW, it's always the *team* that wins. In case of Axis, Japan, being weaker, will always play the "supporting" role to Germany. Germany should win the game for Axis team.

Remember, without the AV, and with 2 equally skilled players, the allies will usually win in the traditional sense. Meaning the axis might be able to take Moscow, but they will more than likely never take London or Washington (unless the allied players makes a serious mistake). The way the axis "wins" without an AV is by having a higher score at the end than the allies.

So is it more likely and possible to win the game by the axis taking over the world if you play as both Japan and Germany?

You can easily take over the world as the Axis if you are playing against the AI. It is just that at the higher difficulty levels, you will need much more time, like unitl 1960.

Yes, much better chance if you play as both Germany and Japan, than if you let the AI play as Germany.

i'd say that a few months ago it was possible, but due to the last two patches its nearly impossible.

it used to be that you could easily destroy the US pacific fleet by surrounding pearl harbor or invading the US west coast. now though the USA fleet is extremely hard to destroy. I suppose this is more realistic, but it limits the axis possibilities.

in a straightforward battle for the pacific, without any "gamey" tactics, the japanese seem to be best at playing everyone to a standstill. the time needed to buildup sufficient forces to conquer the entire world would take too long and the USA too easily outproduces the axis to allow a US invasion.
