Japan's Conquest of the Pacific (Adm Halsey vs Joliverlay)

Posted: Sat Aug 06, 2005 10:27 pm
by ADM Halsey
Yes I am playing Japanese for the first time. CHS 1.02 with lovely maps and counters, a lot of hard work was put into that and it was a very good job.

Anyway, here goes:

Opening shots as you can see Pearl Harbor went over poorly. Nothing sunk. I am going to hit it again next turn to see if I can sink anything.

To those of you who are experts with the Japanese comments and suggestion are welcome.[&o]

I can not get APs to load troops at Palau. I can form the task force but load troops command can not be selected.

As the situation developes I will start to make plans for DEI, and other areas.

I stuck around for the second strike at Pearl and still no sunk BBs.

I can not get APs to load troops at Palau. I can form the task force but load troops command can not be selected.

This sounds like you are using the wrong map data file. You should recheck your map installation to make sure that you are using the right pwhex.dat file.

Let me know if you need help checking this.

Andrew

Are you the one who made these maps?

It is not every base just certian ones. (Truk, Palau so far) What would I check to make sure I have the right pwhex.dat.

Thanks much

Yes I made the map. To check that you have the right pwhex.dat file, you can check the timestamp of the file. Here are the file timestamps:

"Standard" version 3b Pwhex.dat: 26/03/2005 10:54:02 PM
"Extended" version 3b Pwhex.dat: 26/03/2005 11:01:18 PM

You may have to convert to US date format [:)]

Note that this file needs to be in the main WitP directory, not the ART directory.

You can also use the "F6", "R" and "1" keys to make sure all of the terrain data matches the map art.

I like your Avitar by the way (RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!)

I copied the file again and it looks like I have the right one there now. Thanks for the help. Great job on the Map. Who did the art work on the planes. I think you all need a medal for that great work.

Now I can start the conquest of the South Pacific. Muh ha ha ha.

Three bases in the Phillipines have fallen. I hope to take a few more. Plans for the DEI are coming along, forces are on there way. I need to get a level 4 airfield in southern phillipines to base bettys and zeros.

I like your Avitar by the way (RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!)

Sums up my WitP strategy [:)]
I copied the file again and it looks like I have the right one there now. Thanks for the help. Great job on the Map. Who did the art work on the planes. I think you all need a medal for that great work.

You can thank "Subchaser", "TheElf", and perhaps others I have forgotten to mention.
Now I can start the conquest of the South Pacific. Muh ha ha ha.

Happy hunting.

Plans for Malaya:

I am going to try and stage paratropers to cut off the bulk of the Brits as they fall back to Singapore. Recon of the bases near Singapore will determine what places they will drop. I managed to catch the Repules and the PoW in port and do some damage to them.

Plans for the South Pacific and New Guinea

I am moving some of my BBs to Truk to support an invasion of Rabaul. Once Rabaul and Lae are secure, Gili Gili may be next. I have a force in route to Guadalcanal to establish air search operations. Once that is accomplish then it is on to Noumea and maybe New Zeland.

send more fighters to pearl on ur next wave

and send sum on strafe

with the AC in hawaii decimated u obviously wont have anywher near as much to worry about regarding counterattacks

u dont have to worry about the american carriers

only an idiot would attack that Deathstar with at best 2 carriers against 6[:'(]

Only if I do not get to close to Pearl Harbor. In another game I was playing as Allied I took them on by parking my Lex and Big-E at Pearl. They got to close and 2 Japanese CVs went down and my two CVs badly damaged.

He is using the level 4 airfield next to Pearl to evac planes and my have even brought B17s over to help. If so he does not have enough support to keep them all airborne. Hmmm if I where him where would I go with my two little CVs. I know where I would send them and that is where I shall go. A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go!

Thanks for the info marky, it is a lot different playing Japan.

It looks as if a technical problem is going to cause us to restart. I had a wrond file which was causing map trouble for both of us. I have already sent off the new turn.

The new game is underway and things are going along fairly well. Wake Island fell on Dec 7th on Dec 8th 3 bases in the Phillipines have fallen also. I am going to stick to my plan that I was brewing from last game. Pearl Harbor again after two days of strikes has not produced a sunk BB except Utah. I am not sure if I will hang around for a third day or not.

nono

hang around

dont make the same mistake nagumo made

but thank god he did

keep bombing pearl till u sink the BBs, they cant stay afloat forever

u just have to put enuff torps into em

maybe 7 or 8 per BB

do as much damage as u can

then if u can head for the west coast and see if u can find any merchies

My bombers are not being very effective on the torpedo end of things. I want to hunt down the carriers so I do not have to worry about them later. I will see what happens when I get the next turn back.

After 3 days of bombing Pearl Harbor all I come up with is Utah sunk and Oklahoma sunk. There are a lot of other ships badly damaged. Intel from spys on the ground have reported 2 other BBs may be so badly damaged that repairs may not be possible and could be scraped instead of being repaired.

Airborne operations in Malaya are on there second day and have secured one base and the fight is on for another to cut off retreating allied forces. I am still trying to get use to the Japanese end of operations and get better organized.

I have had a problem with the Combat Report file not up dating so I can not show any status of the battles at the moment. If anyone knows of this problem happening before and know a fix any help would be great.

Things are not moving along at light speed but they are moving. This is my first time playing the Japanese.

Bases taken so far:
Hong Kong, Wake, Guam, Makin, Tarawa, Vigan, Aparri, Legaspi, Alor Star, Kota Bharu, and Batan Island.

Airborne drops have been conducted in Malaya to try and cut the retreat of allied forces. So far they have take one base (Malacca) and Kuantan is still being fought over. I have landings underway or to be conducted at Kuching, Baker, Lunga, and Cagayan (underway).

Losses so far are as follows:

Allies

AK = 13
AO = 1
AP = 1
AVD = 1
BB = 2
ML = 1
PG = 2
PT = 2
TK = 1

Japan

SS = 2

I am not sure if I am way behind the curve on expansion, but I need to sink more ships that is for sure.

Well more later.

12-17-41

Baker Island has fallen as well as Tarawa. I am thinking about Johnson Island as my next targert. If I do, it will have to be later in the month toward the end.

I do have a question for anyone here that might read this. What would be the harm in Maxing out naval shipyards by expanding them as far as I can? (Other than eating up supply.) Would the ultimate plus mean faster build times on my ships? Remember this is my first time playing the Japanese and any tips would be great.

I have almost cut Malaya in two. Its should be done by 12-18-41. Then I will take out the bases north of that line. Once done then on to Singapore.

My subs near Hawaii had a chance to put a fish in the Lexington but failed to do so. The commander of the sub was reported as killed in action by the XO of the sub. [:D]
