If this is not the right place to ask this please direct me. I have a CTD around turn thirteen. I cut out sound and terrain sound. Thinking the game may not be able to handle the load. I know my computer is able to handle it. 3000 athlon chip, with ATI 9800 pro graphics card.(most recent drivers installed). 1024 of ram. Some help to understand the problem. Thank you.

Sorry for my ignorance. What is a "CTD?" Once I know that I might be able to help. In the meantime I'll take a look and play it myself ... again! (G) It is one of my monster scenarios. I don't do them often. It does push the game to the max.

CTD stands for Crash To Desktop. I does sound like it overloaded Zap's PC. How much memory do you have, Zap?

I get a sreen going into different colors before it sends me back to desktop.

Well, certainly doesn't look like a performance issue. The only hardware related thing I can think of, is that AMD and Intel processors can't always run the same software smoothly.

I should say that I played the germans as human,; so I changed what was preset. US human and German computer. I was very agressive as the german.
Does having your virus software on create problems?

It CAN. Firewalls have also been known to cause trouble. I've never had problems with either, but very resource-intensive software (like SP and WitP) can have difficulty coexisting with virus scanners and firewalls.
Does the crash always happen at the same time in the game?

JUst about the same time turn 12 or 13. It happens on different parts of the battlefield. I thought I saw someone talking about a graphics problem crash. If I can find it I will edit it in this post.

Yeah, I've heard of several graphics related CTD's as well. Never actually seen one, but more than one person has posted here about it.

The next time I play this scenario I will shut down ZONE ALARM to see if that is not the problem.

You do that, and check back here if it doesn't work. Then we'll try something else...

Another thing, Zap. Are you playing with Command & Control on?

Yes. I hope we can add this to the new "Technical Issues" thread, once a solution is found.

Terminus, I turned off Zone Alarm same results CTD turn 12 or 13. I'm not sure if Command and CONTRO was on. If the default has Command and Control on, it was on. I did not change any thing concerning that. Should that be the next move. To try the scenario with it off?

I'll try it myself this weekend. I have not played it in awhile. I'll see what happens...WB

Tried with C&C off same result. Crashes to desk top around turn 12 ,13. I give up for now, will try something else in the future. It seems it happens when I'm on the verge on the victory. I guess the game can't stand to have me win![:D]

Then my guess is a memory leak. Steel Shield is a very large scenario.

A memory leak is a coding term, and it's an error caused in the programming stage.
It basically means that a part of the game asks to use a part of your system memory and then "forgets" to give it back when it's done.
The next time the same part of the game asks for a part of the memory, it has to have a new piece of memory assigned, because the bit it's already got (and was supposed to have given back) is still in use. This goes on and on and on, and will eventually cause a crash.
Hmm, the first symptoms of a leak is a slowdown of the program. That happen to you?
