Pilot casualties from ground losses?

I'm at the office, and can't test this.
Has anybody actually checked to see if squadrons take pilot losses, when the squadron is bombed on the ground? In game, I'm thinking probably not. But I'm just curious.

Never actually thought of that... Off hand, I'd say probably not...

i can not be sure 100%, but i think that Gen. Hoeppner stated in his AAR that his pilots were killed on the ground...

you have a much better chance of pilots surviving on the ground vs in the air

hi i was faster willy[:'(]
yes there is pilot losses on the ground...
bombed Rabaul from PM and Buna with heavies. All ac groups were stood down. After one air attack, two of four full ac groups suffered casaulties.
2 pilots from the 45 lt sentai were killed (36 planes/36 pilots before air attack)
2 pilots from the zero daitai were killed (27/27)..
rest two groups were lucky...no sleeping pilots in the planes[:)]
but, i found something confusing... from the screen is clearly that only 8 Lilys were destroyed on the ground. But when i clicked on this Lily sentai i found only 5 ready and 6 damaged ac from 36?!
where are the rest?

Hmm, a quick test showed that 1 pilot was killed on the ground per three planes destroyed on the ground. This will of course differ over different AF sizes.... (tested level 9 AF)

Yes, General Hoepner had his pilots, including one ace, killed on the ground by my bombers.

Aircrew can get killed on the ground...far too frequently IMO. Aircrews would be taking cover in bombproof shelters during an air-raid.
I think that air-crew ops losses are too high as well ... and aiplane ops losses way too low. Most airplane ops losses were write-offs after returning from missions. Realistically, about 30% of damaged AC should be scrapped as ops losses without killing the crew.

Agree with doktorblood, GG's games have always been too bloody for aircrews and not enough for aircrafts... They also never modelize the fact that most air units had more pilots/crews than aircraft.

For a realistic way that air-crews react during an air raid just watch the Pearl Harbour movie. Get the fighters in the air and shoot down them Japs.
