Could be Korea, but I didn't think M1928 Thompsons were issued in the '50s. I knew M1A1s were, but not 1928s.

Look at that two-star. Doesn't he remind you of anyone?

I was looking at him too for a bit. They do look interesting, don't they? But I suspect our two-star would have been a three-star by the time he had anyone from that country in his boat. Notice the navy fellow in the bottom of the picture.

My initial reaction is that this in George Patton - just started searching for confirmation.

I would say this is a landing craft in Operation Torch with Major General Patton (still 2 stars at this time). The man behind him is probably a Russian military liasion here to observe the opening of the "2nd Front" against the Germans.

Patton didn't get his 3rd star until after Kasserine Pass when he assumed command of II Corps.

I think the bodyguards with the Thompson's is a Patton trademark.

Heh! Interesting to see an African-American among them. I guess that just shows that Patton meant it when he said, "I don't care what color you are, as long as you want to kill Krauts!"[:D]

Notice the American army officer with the rank insigia on the front of his helmet- another of Patton's trademarks.

Yes sir, that's G.S. Patton heading for shore at Casablanca. I believe he's debarking from th Heavy Cruiser Agusta which was his flagship for the invasion.,
I've seen that photo many times before.
Darn, rhondabrwn beat me to it![:D]

Patton, Okay.

Russian Officer, Okay

Naval Officer, not a Line officer, he's wearing a shield. Paymster[:D]

The Army, Navy & Marines had many African American in the ranks during WWII. He could be, possible, Native American.

The Army officer behind the Ensign, possible, just by the way he's dressed, the watch & the ring, Mark Clark?

I know, but they were segregated... He could be Native American, a very dark-skinned one, though.

No, it's probably Patton's orderly - Sgt William Meeks.

The black guy could be his valet. Can't make out his collar.
Why would a russian be with Patton in africa? Not so sure the helmet is russian.

Patton, it is[:)]

Thompson*, it is[:)]

It is, M1 Carbine.

It is,Rear Admiral John L. Hall.

.............

Picture Caption Reads:

"Major General George S. Patton, U.S. Army (left center) and Rear Admiral John L. Hall, USN (behind Patton) prepare to go ashore during the North African operation.
Photo is dated 4 December 1942, but was probably taken on 9 November 1942, when Patton went ashore for the first time at Fedhala, Morocco."

* Thier not near as I can tell M1928's no barel fins or compensator's present and the cocking pull is on the side not the top, M1 or M1A1, it (They are) is.

....................

"No, it's probably Patton's orderly - Sgt William Meeks"

I agree.

Compare Patton's body language with Adm Hall. Patton is standing up tall, arm over the canvas, offering as much of himself as a target as possible. Hall is shrunken up, almost hiding..maybe he is seasick [:)]
