Some kind of patrol boat? I would say Korea again

Could be Korea, but I didn't think M1928 Thompsons were issued in the '50s. I knew M1A1s were, but not 1928s.

I was looking at him too for a bit. They do look interesting, don't they? But I suspect our two-star would have been a three-star by the time he had anyone from that country in his boat. Notice the navy fellow in the bottom of the picture.

My initial reaction is that this in George Patton - just started searching for confirmation.

I would say this is a landing craft in Operation Torch with Major General Patton (still 2 stars at this time). The man behind him is probably a Russian military liasion here to observe the opening of the "2nd Front" against the Germans.

Patton didn't get his 3rd star until after Kasserine Pass when he assumed command of II Corps.

I think the bodyguards with the Thompson's is a Patton trademark.

Heh! Interesting to see an African-American among them. I guess that just shows that Patton meant it when he said, "I don't care what color you are, as long as you want to kill Krauts!"[:D]

Notice the American army officer with the rank insigia on the front of his helmet- another of Patton's trademarks.

I know, but they were segregated... He could be Native American, a very dark-skinned one, though.

I agree.

Compare Patton's body language with Adm Hall. Patton is standing up tall, arm over the canvas, offering as much of himself as a target as possible. Hall is shrunken up, almost hiding..maybe he is seasick [:)]

The guy is wearing a standard M1 steel pot like evryone else in the picture, it's just on backwards for what ever odd reason
