No Sound on Initial Startup

Just got the download. Installed it and then the patch. Started the game (put in my serial number) and everything runs fine...except there is no sound/music. My system is fine, plenty of noises from other apps. And the sound/music options are on "ON" in the game. Any clues as to what I have overlooked?

What's your operating system?
Do you get sound from the Matrix/WCS logo videos?

WinXP Pro on A Dell Dim 8400
3.0 GHz P4
1 gig ram
160 gig HD (mostly empty
SB Audigy2 sound card
Nvidia 6800 GTO video card
All in all, it is massive overkill for CoG.
And no, I have not heard a peep from ANY of part of this game. My other Matrix games whistle, beep and boom just fine.
Any guesses?

The sound libraries are all standard Windows calls...nothing out of the ordinary....

Done.
Double checked and yes, Korsun Pocket makes sounds just fine (even that obnoxious static in on the startup screen).
And, I can go to the CoG sound directory and manually play the files with no problem.
Later...uninstalled the game. Rebooted. Re-installed. Started game. Exited. Ran update. Started again. Never heard a peep at any point. The first time I installed, I updated before running the game for the first time. Apparently that makes no difference.
Also, I changed my default player from Musicmatch to Win Media Player, just in case. No joy.

Do you have a default sound card on your motherboard? If so, would you mind disabling your Audigy2 and enabling the default sound card to see if the problem is with the Audigy drivers somehow.
There's not really any code I can change to address this issue. I make very standard Windows calls to play the sound files and there really aren't any parameters in these routines that I can adjust. I will help troubleshoot your hardware and drivers as much as I am able, but if we can't solve the problem by adjusting other settings on your machine, I'm not sure there's anything I can do vis-a-vis changing the COG code in order to resolve this issue.

I got the XPS, 3.4, 1 Gig (now 3) 160 internal, 160 external, same sound card, some video card
mine makes all kinds of sounds
hmmm, not to sound dumb, but did you check under options and make sure the sound is turned on in the game ?
(it should of been on by default)
other then current drivers and or updated direct X 9c
don't have any other ideas
hope you get it working, it it much better with sound

OK, I found the problem. Quite odd, really, but worth taking note of. Having exhausted the usual and customary route of driver and firmware solutions I re-looked at the sound card.
The problem was the speaker settings. My card was set for "Quadraphonic" speakers (No, not my doing!). Other programs don't seem to care, but CoG does not like quadrophenia. Not even a little bit. So, I re-set the speaker configuration to 4.1 and presto! Beeps, whistles and classical now accompany my efforts to set Europe upon the True Straight and Narrow Path.

Interesting. So does COG not work with quad speakers, or did you have it set to quad speakers without having quad speakers hooked up?
I wonder why it doesn't work with quad.... I'll search through the Windows sound libraries and see if there's some setting dealing with this I can tweak.

Hmmmm
now that is very strange, as that is how mine is set up ?
at least you got it working
(hmmm, try going back to Quad and see if it works now, if not go back to what you got it set at now)
