So, how does one go about taking control of a province in a non-military manner. I am having as much luck extracting this information from the manual as I have extracting an argumnet on philosophy from my cat. Anyone able to provide a potted, concise 1 papragraph 'how to do it' guide?

Do you mean, how does one gain protectorates?

In which case you can use diplomats for "charm" or "coup", or use your gold to "subsidise" for swaying the minor to you. Avoid alliances, so that if a power attacks a minor you can be called upon to protect it.

that last statement is one of the best, wait till you see a report that somebody declared war on a minor, then on your turn, pump some money into that minor, it is still a die roll, but a lot of times it will ask you to protect them

(at times I wish you could treaty another country to declare war on a minor)

Coops will take over a province, minor, but you will lose there troops, you can attack them and take them over, but again, you lose there troops, you can bribe them, or charm them, and wait and how they ask you to protect them
