No Torpedo used by Jap Torp Bombers ???

Hi all,

I just watched the combat report of Dec 7, 1941 Turn in PBeM against my opponent (Hi Martin [:)] ), and am quite sad to notice that all my Torpedo Bombers attacking PH have used BOMBS instead of torpedoes, resulting in quite low damage to BBs [:@]

I know that when used at max range, Torp bombers could not carry torpedoes, but I was careful to select '4' as max attack range for all planes involved in attack, and destination hex of task forces was 2 hexes away from PH. And from what was displayed on map during combat report (the red line showing the attack path), it seems that attack planes were indeed launched from 2 hexes away...

Could anyone explain this (should have been done 100 times in this forum already, sorry).

Chris

This is "dice roll" and is explained in manual - aircraft that attack ships anchored in port (and that is "Port" attack against Pearl Harbour in your example) will only sometimes use their torpedoes - they will mostly use bombs.

So... you suffered extremely bad "dice roll"... few days ago one other user had extremely good "dice roll" where all of his "Kate" torpedo bombers did launch torpedoes in Pearl Harbour attack... it's luck good/bad...

Yup,

There is always that off chance that will happen. Not that US BBs matter that much in the beginning of the war, but it would be nice to have the VPs for them.

Thanks for the quick answer guys.

And Yes, I saw that lucky attack a few days ago resulting in all BBs sunk... Well, I can live with such 'bad luck', if it means I get better luck on my first attack against US carriers [:D]

That's a good way to look at it...sacrifice your bad luck early, so your good luck can shine when you really need it.

There is some sort of special rule in the game whereas the Kates will drop torpedoes with a higher frequency during the PH attack, but you may have to play with 'surpise' on in order to get that bonus. I've always played that way and have seen plenty of times where none of them drop torps. Of course the way the scenario is set up, there's only 4 of the Kate groups which are attacking port, the other two are attacking airfields, so you should never get 6 groups of torps unless you alter the scenario or are playing another.
