Multiplayer Bomb

Just purchased today the 1.41 version. Nothing but problems with Multiplayer freezes. Usually about 10-15 turns into the game, sometimes less. We play alot of network strategy games, and have tried 2 players on four different computers with same result. Totally unstable. We tried (in various combinations);
3 XP Pro machines (2 dell laptops, 1 gateway workstation)
1 Win2K (IBM Thinkpad)
We opened al lthe port on a linksys router, and a D link router, and still no luck.

We are both developers, and the machines are all up to date with service packs, etc. Turned off all the firewalls, normal troubleshotting stuff. Definitely a huge bug, and a real bummer since we bought the games particularly for the multiplayer. No trouble running the single player versions. DXDiag attached.

PLEASE patch this! We own several Matrix titles and would like to think our support is appreciated! Your games are generally great!

If the previous version had more stable multiplayer, I would love to get my hands on that!
Meanwhile, back to Civ. Thnx!

I totally agree!!!

Please fix!!!

I purchased this game for the mulitplayer and somewhere between turns 10 - 16 it crashes. Basically an error appears stating that X Player has encountered an unrecoverable error. Telling us to restart the game from a previous save turn. But even that will crash.

What is the fix. Me and my son love the Idea of this game and would really like to play a game - a complete game. Thanks.

I'm sorry no one responded to this - it was posted while I was away on vacation and for some reason wasn't among the "new messages" flagged for me on my return. Usually someone else on our staff will catch any support threads that I miss. This seems like it may be a separate issue from the occasional crash. I will make sure to bring this up with SSG and see what they can do. Multiplayer did work in our pre-release testing, I'm not sure what would have gone wrong since then or if this is in some way configuration-specific.

Just to confirm:

1. Are multiple players experiencing this problem?
2. Does this happen regardless of the number of players or other multiplayer options you choose?

Pixelboy, FWIW your Radeon 9200 drivers are not the latest and your Sound drivers are from 2001. I don't believe this should have a bearing on network games, but it's worth pointing out.

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks for the update Erik. Please keep us posted. We tried the multiplayer on some other machines with same result. Really too bad because the game has some interesting AI.

Also thanks for the note on the drivers. I will check for updates.

Best
