Retreat questions

A few questions on retreats.

1) It looks like units can retreat by sea. Are transports required for this? In every sea space?

2) Damaged units go to friendly factories for repair. Can they go through neutral countries? Can they go through sea zones? If they can go through sea zones, does there have to be a transport? In every sea space?

The reason I'm asking about the damaged units is that in some cases it looks like units cannot trace back to a friendly factory, but I am not getting a notification that the units are being destroyed for a failure to retreat. For example, I attack Gibraltar as the Germans. The Western Allies have a transport adjacent to Gibraltar, but no chain of transports leading to a friendly factory. I don't get any notification that the surviving units are destroyed for a failure to retreat, and I also see the damaged units seeming to retreat away via the transport. The rules say there has to be a chain of transports, but I'm not so sure that's the way it is really working.

Anyone have any comments?

Is it possible he is connected to his factories in India or Austraila via sea transports/ Land (Africa) then sea transports again and possibly all the way back to the US and UK from the West?

FOW is probably hiding his escape route from you.

No, in the Gibraltar example there is just one transport which is adjacent to Gibraltar. There are no other transports connected to it.

I was wondering whether you actually forced a retreat of all British units from Gibraltar. It seems like you did from your question but I thought it was worth asking. If you did not force a retreat but units were damaged in your attack - then the damaged units will be destroyed but you will not receive any notification of this.

I think. [8D]

I have seen the "cannot retreat and is destroyed" message in situations where there was an overland retreat route. Repeating the very same attack it only happened occasionally - so I cannot pin down the bug exactly but its reported. As such I would not be surprised if other quirks exists.

I think this particular bug has so far been confined to Siberia.
