Bomber did not return to base.

I have just recently begun playing GGWAW ad have thus far figured most difficulties out, except this one: The WA sent a sortie of several fighters and bombers from Southern England to Western France, but one of the bombers stayed in Western France. It stayed there throughout my turn, I could move units in and out of the zone, but it required me to conduct the battle before the end of my turn. Not really a problem, except that it wouldn't play the battle out to a conclusion and I could not end the turn without concluding that battle. Has someone dealt with this before? Thanks so much.

If you're playing with Fog of War on, when you move a unit into a new area such that it reveals the contents of previously hidden enemy areas then you're unable to take back the move. I believe this happens even if no enemy units are in the revealed areas. It only happens to the first unit moving (it's the one that gains the intel for you).

If you're playing with FOW ON then that could be what happened to your bomber; it revealed the contents of the Axis areas adjacent to Western France that you couldn't see prior to the bomber's move. You can't undo the move because you can't undo the revealing of enemy positions.

I've seen this before, I think they've gotten most of the cases where this happens, but sometimes you just have to try avoiding situations where it might occur.

I suspect the bomber had already attacked something and you sent it on a second sortie, which it could never complete. that happens sometime to me, so I've learned to not send planes in after they've attacked once. the other time it happens is when I send a transport into a sea zone with an enemy ship that it can't hit and then move supplies across it. the attack icon never hightlights up, since it can't hit anything.

Thanks for the reply. I should clarify that I was playing Axis and in the two cases now that this has happened it involved WA Bombers. The second time was with German ships in the Kattegat. Fog of War was off.

The second example sounds a bit like a known feature: you can actually leave an air unit over water or an enemy territory. The unit will be on CAP and attack anthing trying to pass through the territory. See the relevant section in the manual.

However, this should not stop you from ending your turn...
