IS it possible to make planets, cos it would be cool to make a Halo style ring world.

It is. There are few options available. One of them is to create planet as solid object in space (with Magic for example). You can't place structures on it though unless you include them to model itself.
In Starshatter itself planets are 2d images in space and surface is done with some software which is not available for public.

Are you sure about that? They always looked like 3D spheres to me, not just a 2D image slapped over the background.
In fact, I'm fairly certain that my desktop is having a difficult time rendering all those planets, as when I have a planet nearby and one or more planets far away in the background my game slows down so bad it's barely even moving.
It's one of the few times in my life my Laptop (that's two years old) and it's simple and outdated graphics card actually out performs my desktop.

if you want to make wack planets, like the busted moon I had in the bsg mod, just add them as objects, I used the sat definition, and make them really big.

Damo,
Good to see you here. One quick question..."sat definition" - what is that?
