First of all, I'm not 100% clear on exactly what deploy skirmishers
means.

1) What does it represent in real life?
2) What are the pro's and con's of using it?

The other thing is that delay slider at the bottom of the
screen. What does that do?

Thanks in advance!

there have been some big treads on Skimishers, so would say to look for these, instead of trying to repost all the the ideas

the delay slider is for how long the icons take to move around the map

In the game, deploying skirmishers represents a more defensive posture - the unit will take less damage, but also deal out less damage. It will also cost more movement points to move around and change facing. I have always thought about it as "digging in", although units with skirmishers can charge (carryiong their dugouts with them? nah, bad analogy)

I frequently use skirmishers where a unit is going to take a lot of hits from the baddies - a unit who is 'drawing fire' as they say. If they rest rather than attacking in their turn they can actually hold pretty darn well.

WRT the delay slider - it only affects graphics - it has no impact on the battle itself, just the speed things fly past on the screen.

Thanks again guys. I'm finding skirmishers very usefull on my flanks. They seem to make a good 'anchor' especially in cover. I had a militia unit in a village hex hold out in skirmish mode much longer than I would have expected.
