Dec 22, 1941 : curious to know where I am standing...

Hi all,

I am playing my first PBeM game as Japanese in scen 15 (Hi Martin [:)]) and we have reached two weeks duration (December 22, 1941).

I am wondering about my pace of operations compared to average players, so I would be interested to hear about achievements or at least advices after 2 weeks...

I am controlling :

- PI : Lingayen, Laoag, Aparri, Tuguegarao + fights in Legaspi, Naga
- Malaya : Khota Bharu(with airbase active) + fights in Alor Star, Kuantan
- Burma : Tavoi, units near Moulmein
- Pacific : Guam, Wake
- China : Hong-Kong + fights in Yenen, Changsa (tons of LCU both sides), Canton (nasty attack of Chinese while i was assaulting HK), and I retreated from Pakhoi (again Chinese attack, not strong but my units are away). Overall I am at war in China, not just looking at front lines.

- I did not attack Borneo, New Guinea, Bismark Arch. yet.

Ship losses : Allied player did lost several BBs in Pearl, and I managed to sink Enterprise and Lexington last day near PI. Also, I did put several torpedoes in PoW and Repulse hulls near Legaspi (not sunk it seems). Overall my main units losses are : CVL Hosho, a few CA and CL, and a fair amount of transports and submarines.

Do you think such state of operations is average after two weeks ? also I was wondering about putting focus on a few or all theaters at same time, either I try to do all at once (PI, Malaya, Burma, China, Borneo, ...) at risk of being slow at advancing front lines, or I stabilize a few areas to put more strength elsewhere...

I know that part of the game is choosing the right strategy and I do not ask for specific advice, just curious to hear about other players choices.

Chris
(Sorry for my poorly chosen sentences, english is not my native language [;)])

I'd say you're ahead of the game, so to speak, what with the naval losses you've inflicted. Nice job.

As for overall strategy, the "attack everywhere at once" approach doesn't really work, because the Japanese land forces aren't large enough to fight effectively in all the widely dispersed theatres. Destroy your enemy a bit at a time by achieving local superiority.

(and your English isn't bad at all...)

Ainurdolin,

Sorry to hijack your thread.

You can expect to have PI by the middle of January and Malaya by the first part of February. You can have the railway cities in China by the end of January.

You caught the American carriers in the PI in December?

I'd say you are doing ok - In my PBEM the Japs are about the same position after two weeks and I've sunk a couple of CL's and I'm happy enough. If my English is wrong, sorry but I've had a lot of alcohol[:)]

Well, he is playing a PBEM, and his opponent may have been overly optimistic with his CV's! [;)]

Yes, I guess my opponent was a bit daring and send the two carriers near PI to attack transport TFs that were doing unloading troops near Naga... KB was too far to intercept but I did have Air Combat TFs with CVE/CVL near, and also some Bettys and Zeros based at Laoag... So even if he managed to sank a CVE, he was doomed...

"and I managed to sink Enterprise and Lexington last day near PI."

With only the loss of Hosho, I'd say you're doing just fine.
