Turret Hit Question

In reading "14.1 Angle and Point of Impact", 2nd paragraph, it reads:
"If the incoming shot is traced exactly down the line between hit locations (Side and Rear, for example) the shot is considered to hit the location most favorable to the shooter. If the to hit die roll is both greater than 2 and an even number, the shell has impacted the target's turret..."
Does this apply ONLY to shots "exactly down the line" or does this apply to all shots?
