Some Newbie questions

I just played both tutorial scenarios and some things look a bit strange to me.

Why are the artillery units so fast?
They just have 11 motorcycles and 14 jeeps. Doesn't look like this is enought for 364 men, al lot equipment and 11 howitzers.

Did I miss something?

Also the equipment database seems to be very simplified.
For example:
MP40, Sten and Thomson SMGs have the same values.
Not a single different value that seems a bit strange.

Which arty unit are you referring to?

Re the SMGs. I just looked up the data and yes by and large these were very similar. The Thompson has a higher reliability though. One thing we have done is to reduce rates of fire down to the sustained effective rates used in combat over the average length of an operation. This normally means reducing the rates of fire. Eg. A sten may have a very high cyclical ROF but in combat the troops generally fired it in short bursts. After all they just didn't carry the ammo and the weapon would invariable breakdown before their theoretical ROF could be achieved. In any event what we are concerned about here is simulating the "operational level" effect.
