Hi,everyone.I enjoy this game so much.
I hope there are more generals and they can promote(division-->corp-->army commander)
because
1) When I lose general in detail combat(especially three stars), I can replace by other generals.
2) I can enjoy their existence[:)])
It may be difficult and complicated but I'm happy if it comes true in the future!

The game feature that creates new generals is working properly in the 1.2 beta, and we have had Eric tweak it a couple of times to make it better! New generals are 1 and 2 star only, without somewhat random attributes - some of them are quite good.
I think we have talked Eric into the idea of providing for promotions, but I am not sure this will make it into the 1.2 patch.
I think the current proposal is that you "qualify" for promotions by building barracks. Then after a particularly successful battle, the generals who participated can be promoted - possibly by the player choosing. IMHO (and these details have not been approved, AFAIK), the no of provinces with a barracks 10 should entitle you to 1 four star each; the no with barracks over 8 should qualify you for one 3 star each; the no with barracks over 5 should qualify you for one 2 star each. Then if your generals-in-play drops down (either by people dying or by you building barracks), you get leader promotion after major battles. [Generation of new divisional leaders would be independant, and based on large battles.] That way if your 3 star dies, the next major battle will result in a 2 star (if there is one in the battle) being promoted.
The alternative proposal is that you should be able to promote up to 1x4 star, 1x3 star for each army you have on the map, and 1x2 star for each corps you have on map. After a battle there would be chance (not a certainty) of being able to promote if you have vacancies.
Which do people prefer: based on barracks, or based on armies/corps?
Any other ideas?

4-star commanders are very powerful, especially if they have good stats. I would want to limit them to no more than one per nation. Making the others depend on both # of armies/corps and also some development level might be good.
This might be a good use for the Culture development; it's currently the weakest development area. Culture => better aristocracy / national cohesion => better commanders, or some such reason.

I still like my idea on tieing promotions with surrenders (promote your own)
yes, would agree, only 1 4 star per nation (as long as a chance to make a new one if old one dies)
not really sure I like the idea of barracks to make Generals, as then it is still back to the strong get stronger, and the weak stay weak
not sure, but in beta, both sides should still be getting the chance during the big battles to come away with a leader ?????

Actually, the comment I'd like to add to this thread is that I think the "remove general" surrender term costs way too few points. Its quite possible to strip a nation of all or most of their generals in one surrender event which I think is exceptionally unfair.
I think regardless of how new generals are created a country should always have at least one 4-star and one 3-star general. If they're removed by terms then other generals should be created or auto-promoted to backfill. This prevents countries of being stripped of generals.

i think the remove general option should only remove the general for a year, considering the cost

Carnifex, actually I think you are on to something here. The way it should work should be that you remove the general for a fixed time based on the amount of points your willing to pay. I suppose you could also have a permanent option as well if desired that costs a very significant amount of points. This would allow simulation of death, temporary banishment and permanent exile historical events relating to generals.

I prefer more historical leaders on the stage, preferably with portraits since I play by quick battles and thus desire to know whose command prevails in the other side. I once arranged generals belonging to a later scenario to come of age at the start of that later scenario by tapping into the commander text file. (In the process I woke to the finding that, in 1815, Gerard was Grouchy's twin brother with the duo sharing a same face [:'(]) Even so, I just ended there without being able to do about rank advancement as a game progresses.
Either a barrack-based or counter-based promotion is fine. Just wondering if we will be allowed, also, to make promotion decisions on our own whim?
