Artillery and seiges?

Does artillery help in seiges? Does heavy artillery REALLY help in seiges? I've gotten so bothered by losing quality troops that I don't even do anything but starve a city until it's down to 2K men.
Loss of quality really irks...especially when my recruits are only between 20 and 33 years of age.

if able, build a Junk Army for siedges
if you have to, put a good army in the area for protection, let the junk do the attacking put the good army on starve

Artillery help initiate a siege and force a battle to occur.
The original game design called for having a separate "Siege Artillery" unit, since siege and field artillery are really quite two different things. Sadly this was one of the many things that we didn't get a chance to implement, and so we gave the bonus to artillery.
Heavy artillery don't particularly have a better siege bonus, but giving them that is a great idea.
Creating a separate besieging army that's heavy on militia is a good way to avoid losing experienced troops.

why don't you convert the sad and lonely howitzer to siege artillery? make it more expensive, give it a movement ability of zero, and increase it's siege bonus?

Wanna know if horsemen are useless for a siege.

I've thought about the junk army. I've thought about putting my good guys in garrison and throwing my militia into an army to seige. Ack, another army to pay for, or shuffling time for units. Heck, it only takes half a year to starve a city...I rarely succeed in in taking a city straight-off with "charge the walls".
Is a nice idea to make the howitzer into seige artillery...since I've used a captured howitzer and found it's performance unworthy of building more.

Anyone does feel certain Engineering Corps pays in a siege?
