William the Conqueror invaded England to claim the English throne....

And Rolf Urgenst from the town of Borgneirs suddenly decided that growing cabbage was for weenies. So he took up his hoe and marched down to the local militia recruiting office.

The local recruiter, Sven Guddersnoggen was in need of a few good men (the last few having been impaled by Visigoths). Rolf was then given a dagger and a leather apron to wear, and told to go pillage the neigboring town of Comfrey in the name of the local lord.

[:D] How many realize that the Normans were a Norse race? England should be considered a Viking country more than a Saxon one! [:D]

Actually Normans were a mix of Celtish refugees from England (thus the claim for throne), Viking settlers from north with some local Breton blood as well. Mix that with Saxons and you have defined the ancestors of current population.

I think it's Pakistani tribe that will hold the claim !! [:D] But I don't know the immigration statistics of UK that well.
