OT: IJN model question

i was wondering if anyone with knowledge of the IJN might be able to help me out.
i've been building a few 1/700 scale models of japanese warships, and am about to start one of the kuma (light cruiser). the kit comes with lots of info, but the painting guide has left me with a question: the ship carries a dave on its catapult, which according to the instructions should be painted IJN green. yet on the box artwork (and according to WitP), daves seem to have a white paint scheme. i'm not sure wether i should paint it green or white - anyone have any suggestions?
whilst i'm here, thought i'd include a pic of the last model i did - the ayanami (fubuki class destroyer). i know it isn't great but thought i'd include it anyway. any constructive criticism welcome [:)]

Looks good to me. Sorry can't help with the paint scheme, though. I am thinking of restarting doing models after a few years once my boys grow up to the age. Naturally, the wife might disagree with this idea, too...
You are not alone.

I found this site to be nice to browse through:
http://www.combinedfleet.com, with the "Dave" pictured here:

In this photo, the plane appears green on top, white(ish) undersides.
Links provided on this site include pointers to modeling websites. I did not have the patience to browse all of them, but maybe you can find more goodies...

For modellers who are also IJN fans no site can beat this one:
http://www.j-aircraft.com/
Yes it has "aircraft" in the name because it started as Japanese aicraft fanclub but it grew beyond that - go to "Message board" then to "Ships and Navy" and you're sure to find some help there. Those guys enjoy discussing stuff like camo schemes, nuances of model paint, stuff like that...

Reminds me of my old "Seapower" days back in the early 70's.
Never got into naval models personally. I have scores of French, Brits, and Austrians 15mm Napoleonics still. Daugter-in-law working on first grandson. I figure 10 maybe 11 more years before I can "help" him [;)]

Can't hekp you with your question, but....
Nice job on the Ayanami ! Back in the 70s I built most of those myself (I could never find more than a couple of American ships in that Water Line 700 scale[:@])

Thanks for the info everyone. Just realised this morning that I was actually getting my floatplanes mixed up - I was thinking of the Alf instead of the Dave - the Dave is green, Alf is white. So I know what i'm doing now. (In WitP all the Taisho-era light cruisers carry Alfs but according to the Kuma kit I have it carried a Dave).
The worrying thing is that it was the first thing to enter my mind when i woke up this morning. Think i need to get out more..

don't mean to be a party pooper but there is a slight problem with your ayanami here.... the characters are written the wrong way! Japanese reads the same way as english (left to write) unless it is written verticallly (which is very common), in which case it reads right to left like chinese. Currently the name on your cruiser reads "minayaa"...[:'(]

by jobe! you're right! just to make sure I looked up otehr pics and found one of the amagiri... the characters really are written the wrong way!! Wonder why that is, the normal way to read japanese horizontally is from left to right! Maybe it changed, and in WW2 it was the same as chinese?
