Disappointed...

...in that there has been little response for the patch requests. Have the reported issues been identified?
As of today, RFTS was deleted from my PC -- the $20 I spent in buying this game may as well been flushed down the toilet.
This comes from a guy who contributed to Matrix as a member of the SPWaW OOB team and the "Screaming Eagles" Mega Campaign.
I am sorry to seem so harsh, but when a game crashes during play, and it has nothing to do with hardware shortcomings, then the software must be the problem. [:(]

Although the only Matrix games that I have are UV and WitP, the level of support for WitP seems to have dropped to virtually zero recently, despite serious bugs. Maybe Matrix is degenerating into a pattern of poor support of its games. One forum member even reported that Matrix replied to him that a certain bug was "too much trouble to find and fix." I'm trying to organize a boycott of Matrix products until serious bugs such as you describe are addressed, you might consider putting something in your sig similar to what I have.

Ah yes... Releasing patches 2 years after UVs release, and getting ready to release another WitP patch one year hence (long after other games, bugs or not would have been dropped, is poor support for games. Jeeze, I wonder how you rate companies like EA or UbiSoft.....
Keep in mind, different developers, different people doing patches. To compare UV and WitP patching to RFTS is pretty.... well, stupid. Different people did the games.
Not defending RFTS, never played it, but if you are disappointed with that game, keep in mind that UV and WitP are handled by different people, different devs, etc. You really can't compare one to the other.
Also BTW Zachary, on your too hard to find and fix, I quote from Mike Wood his bug fixes for the 1.7 patch (the one you spread the rumor wasn't coming):
1) When air group leaders were killed, ship, task force or land unit leaders sometimes died with them. This was the cause of a great many of the leader problems. Fixed.
SO much for not wanting to find and fix the leader bug....

Hehe Way to go Tankrace. But, I'm crusading and boycotting Matrixgames for another reason, this direct download direct sales and no retail boxed game with a printed manual option even if it is direct for the majority of their games.
I hate PDF GD files. So, I won't "buy" any Matrixgames that don't come boxed with a printed manual and a cd. Their prices are too high in several cases (WITP), but, even so if they had a printed manual with it, I 'might' purchase it if nothing more than a collectors item. I continue to want value for my money and until they give it to me welllllll I'm boycotting also.
Long Live La Revolutionia!!! hehe

Well, RFTS was ok enough till I put in last patch,
then it just at different points stops responding.
I've not yet tried uninstalling then re-installing up to before latest patch, one thing about RFTS is it was written I believe before XP was out so it might be that it willrun best on 9x
As to WITP, the cost is ok enough, if one wants a printed manuel theres places can have it done or just print yourself, frankly, given the prices of Gas recent, a printed manuel, a box, etc would increase cost in my view not just for the printing but the cost of sending it which will be rising as transport costs go up.
Less and less if any software is coming out with manuels, if any their slimed down in size, its a question of paper, printing, handling, transporting, etc costs vis a vis electronic download.

Although I did not have any problems with RFTS/Matrix, I was generally disappointed in the re-make (RFTS/2000) itself.
I actually preferred the old original RFTS.

ravinhood, a much nastier method is one adopted by some other strategy game companies. They require you to be connected to play the purchased/downloaded game. Yes, it checks in every time you play despite you having bought the game even if you only ever play single player. Not to mention bugs that prevent downloaded versions to be played with/against boxed versions online.
See Paradox Games for an example (
www.paradoxplaza.com)
Matrix games SHINES when compared to others.
Honestly, the VALUE you are getting is the freakin' game. That is where all the work went. That the prices are too high for you, well, sorry. I am part of a single income family with a child. If you don't think I have to make sacrifices to get these games then you've got another think coming. "Too expensive" is pretty subjective but alas, I feel your complaint is somewhat unwarranted.
As to the PDFs. I agree with you. There is nothing I enjoy more when it comes to game manuals than taking them to bed and reading as I fall asleep. While I could moan about it, I can also just print out the manual or just the sections I need and keep my mouth shut. The print on demand service is VERY important for Matrix to promote and I hope would satisfy customers like you and I.
Boycotting Matrix for having better service than most? Hmm..

I have to agree with KG Erwin. The problems with RFTS were reported over four months ago, and not only have they not been fixed, but the people who bought the game have been kept in the dark as to when (or even if) a patch is going to be released to fix them.
I have always been satisfied with the level of support Matrix supplies for their games, but they have seriously dropped the ball on this one.
If anybody is thinking of buying this game, I would recommend you hold off until a patch is released (assuming one ever is going to be released).
