The Wargamer
"Lock’n’Load is a great system to succeed Squad Leader. It enhances the detail in the right places. Its morale rules are more refined, and make for a more realistic battle. Its visual detail is stunning. As I stated before, this is a gorgeous game, and one that gamers will want to show off to their friends."

The Readers' Choice Awards - Board Game - GOLD

Mark H. Walker and Matrix Games struck gold this year with their popular new board game, Lock 'n Load: Band of Heroes, making this the second win for Walker and his Lock 'n Load series. This sequel to 2003's Forgotten Heroes moved Walker's "less guff" gaming system into the ever-popular World War II setting, securing it another win with the readers of The Wargamer. Not surprisingly, the Band of Heroes game covers the operations of the 82nd and 101st Airborne at the time of D-Day. Our review of the game praised it as a terrific successor to the Squad Leader heritage as well as a great visual showpiece for boardgame aficionados.

Armchair General - 93%
I really enjoy Band of Heroes. The replay value is excellent and the possibilities for additional scenarios seem endless. A few of the rules, such as opportunity fire restrictions and close assault of vehicles are not very realistic, but Band of Heroes is a game after all, and one in future years that may even become a classic.
