Agreement with Talonsoft On Award-Winning Wargames
Matrix Games is proud to announce that it has acquired the rights to publish the former award winning Talonsoft line of wargames.
The agreement includes the rights to publish, update and modify some of the most well-respected wargames of all time. Included in this agreement is the full Battleground series of games, the Campaign series, the Operational Art of War series, the Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich games as well as the Age of Sail.
From East Front to A Century of Warfare, many of these titles are best-sellers and award-winners and still represent the state of the art on the battles or topics that they cover. The Battleground series, for example, was inducted in its entirety into the Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame.
David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said, “For wargamers, this is a legendary games line and many of us are still playing these titles. We are very excited to be able to publish these titles and are certain that wargamers around the world will be delighted at this news.”
Matrix Games plans to release further information in the near future on updates and publishing plans and schedules for these titles.

oh, great news.
As for modifying some of these titles It would be great to add some strategic elements to the operational art of war so that the player can to some extent also control the production (as done in witp).
And what about combining the engine of Campaign series with that of operational art of war into one game which would so cover both aspects: the operational/strategic with the tactical (alike COG has done)?
Anyway great news, hoping that matrix will do its best to improve and evolve the series

I see this as a definite win-win for Talon,Matrix, and the consumers, because Matrix has a ready made home with potential buyers already gathered in one place, (on the forums). Those Talon games were some of my "guilty pleasures" during Steel Panthers days, and the video graphics have been much missed. (The Bulge has videos of both German scenes accompanied by the Panzerlied, and American action scenes accompanied by The Star Spangled Banner. That game is worth purchasing for the vids alone, IMHO. Bombing the Reich also has great vids, and on the major vid, it plays Wagners "Dance of the Valkyrie" !!!!! Astounding !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get the beer and pretzels ready !!!!!!!![:'(]

Let's hope so....
And Matrix, if you need a beta-tester for the Campaign Series, sign me up...
Played mega-hours on all of them since the original East Front back in '96...in fact just played a few turns of a WF SS Panzer Corps DCG last night...
I have MILLIONS of ideas for this series (okay, more like dozens...)[:D]

So um........Hey you guys. I started working on a TOAW clone last March and got so far as to have about 85% of the scenario editor working ( you can edit the equipment, calender, events, forces but not the map, etc. ) and had a shell of the TOAW clone outlined. Now that Matrix has bought the TOAW rights I'm wondering about the legal ramifications of my working on a TOAW clone. Should I cease and desist? Should I continue? I don't want to ruffle any legal feathers and will comply with any wish expressed by Matrix. Do you want a copy of my source code? Is all my effort effectively in vain? Do you guys (Matrix ) have a copy of the latest wish list ( things the clone was going to fix to make TOAW more playable ) ? Want a hand with fixing TOAW ? I'm available.

Still have the original TOAW manual elite edition. Read and re-read that until all the pages fell out. But I think it's time I get some scotch tape and re-assemble it all together again.

This is potentially GREAT news for the Campaign Series.
I'm holding out a lot of hope for improvements in the Campaign Series engine as this is one of the few brigade level (pushing platoons around) games out there.
Oh, were to start?......
1) Replace IGO-UGO with WEGO 2) Realistic rocket launchers 3) Combining partial strength transport units 4) Replace odds based CRT with differential for anti-armor combat 5) Russian units that fight to the death rather than retreat 6) Etc, Etc.
I could probably write a memo, if not a book.
My concern thought would be marketing this one and Combat Leader at the same time.

I would definitely like to see further development in the Campaign series...my first idea would be to improve the AI and come to think of it like HoustonAerosFan mentioned above replace IGO-UGO with WEGO seems like a great idea!

Replacing igo-ugo with wego is not a practical option I'd imagine.

Hey Matrix, since you are already using some of my stuff [:D], maybe you'd like my West Front mod that adds in new commands for the DCGs, such as the 82nd and 101st Airborne, 1st Special Service Force, 2nd and 5th Ranger Bns, Luftwaffe, Mountain, and Jaeger Divisions, and a Churchill RTR.
