Upgrade problems--possible cause?

I have had problems in installing the upgrade from prior versions.

The game doesn't start from either the quickstart or game menu. Unlike others in the forum, I don't get any error messages.

The game starts fine when using the debug exe file.

I duplicated the error: Original program was in Puresim 2005 folder. with upgrade, I installed to Puresim 2005 Gold folder (I wanted to keep prior version). The game worked fine. But when I learned the game could be installed over prior versions, I uninstalled the game, erased the second folder, and re-installed over the original folder. This causes the error in my case.

I imagine there are some registries that do not become uninstalled and the program stalls for this reason. The debug exe file must bypass this somehow.

Can anyone at tech support look into this and tell me what I can do (delete a registry, etc) to fix this problem--I would like not to use a debug file every time I upgrade (to 1.1 Gold, for example).

Thanks for the help--maybe others in this forum are having similar issues for this same reason?

The Gold Edition was never designed to install over an older version, as far as I know. It is intended to work fine when installed in its own folder as a clean separate installation. This is a full installation, not an expansion or upgrade and we did not test and can't predict what might happen if it's installed over an existing installation. Where did you "learn that the game could be installed over prior versions"?

If you'd like to copy files over from your old installation, such as associations, etc. Shaun has posted instructions for that.

Regards,

- Erik

Well, I am 100% sure its not the game since we'd have hundreds of similar posts. What we'll have to figure out is if there is some sort of incompatibility between a release version and your configuration.

I'm pretty sure you said you have it up and running fine on another one of your machines is this correct? If that's true, then I guess your download is not corrupt.

Is there any anti-virus software running on the PC where the release version will not start?

I disabled the antivirus.

The download is not corrupt because it works on another machine.

The only difference is that initially I had the game installed under 2 folder names on the machine where I'm having difficulties. Safe mode doesn't work either.

When I do click on quick start, no icon appears under the task manager running programs screen.

Also, I have noticed when I uninstall the gold version, the entire folder including the associations is deleted.
