I love the game so far but I think I am missing something. Is there a way to start my league using real players in 1980, finish the season and have the draft use real players from 1981 and so on every year their after.

Yes, that should be the default behavior. (As long as you aren't in 'Sandbox mode')

If you selected 'PureSim Classic' or 'PureSim Historical Replay' from the starting screen, and then chose to "Seed Association with Real Major League Players ..." from the same starting year that you specified on the first screen, it should automagically use 'real' players from each subsequent year until it runs off the end of the database.

For example, if you chose '1999', you'd have the players of the 1999 season available to you.

In '2000', each player who made their major-league debut in '2000' will be available in the Amateur Draft.

Likewise '2001', '2002', '2003', and '2004'.

When you reach '2005', since your DB doesn't have the 2005 regular-season statistics yet, the game will generate fictional players for the amateur draft.

By '2020' or so, almost all of the 'real' players will have retired, and your association will consist almost entirely of fictional players.

(For quick tests, to make sure you're getting something like this working, I recommend making a 4-team association, with only 5 games per season. This isn't fun to 'play', but you can jump through the steps of the game, and make sure that the right players are getting added at the right seasons. Once you've figured it out, then go back and build the full-size association you really wanted!)
