Treaties

In today's episode, France surrendered to Austria despite my best attempts to bring the Kaiserlichs back to Wein. ...1796 scenario.

Quite often I like to play Britain's historical role (doing it as Prussia), which is to be the guardian of the European status quo...with me rising slowly but surely into dominance.

Anyway, France had to cede Anjou and Provence to Austria. I took these from Austria and tried to give them back to France.

1st attempt I offered them by themselves with nothing in it for me. France declined. I thought this was silly.

2nd attempt I offered the two provinces plus $300. Declined.

3rd attempt I offered them the provinces, and thinkning that maybe I'm supposed to demand something in exchange I ask that they liberate Ostfreisland....sorry, Friesland.

4th attempt I offered the 2 provinces plus $1000. Declined yet again.

I noticed in a previoius game in 1.1 that when I forced a country surrendering to me to take back two provinces I'd taken from someone else, it came from the total of points allowed in the surrender.

I'm thinking that for some reason, being made to accept anything is treated as a punishment.

Wow, they must really hate Prussia...

I'll put this on the list to fix in the next patch that the AI won't subtract its attitude from a treaty if it doesn't have to give anything away.

In a terms-of-surrender, any clause counts against the value of the treaty.

But they don't hate Prussia. Big yellow happy face since I took on Austria and Russia. This slowly went back to normal blue face. Level is plus 33 at this time.

I always like get a few alliances started in the early game against the AI. I usually have to offer the alliance with me having enforced peace for 1 year with them and enforced alliance for 1 year. At that point in making the treaty it would say "likely to accept", and the AI almost always did.

Now after the patch they say "will reject" and the AI never accepts. Is this intended?

(note this is playing as Prussia or Sweden, and my first try with the new patch)

Thanks,

I did change the AI's treaty valuation to try to weed-out bad offers, but it's maybe not accepting (some?/any?) good offers now. I'll take another look at that bit of new code.

Heh, I've offered up to 4 provinces and 1000$ and still got shot down. I've had better luck at a bar too drunk to see straight.

Hey Eric
that last change came kind of late, I was able to get surrender treaties in, but so far, none of my treaties have been taken

LOL have not had any they would agree with

(had one, 1st offered Aus to let them use my depots, they agreed with that idea, then when I tried to use there, they said no, added 5 more good clauses to it and they still said no)

hmmmm

my other game, I got 5 actions a month, will go in and see if I can get any kind of treaty though

I don't know if this is related, and I forgot to mention it last night. Anyway, in many of the AI-vs-AI surrender treaties, most of the clauses were duplicated.
