the casualty rates at the end of battles appear to be incorrect. im playin as russia and turkey have attacked my province several time. the results were 20000 dead for the defenders (me) and 4000 for the attackers. yet in the end of turn report it says 20000 turkish dead which is in reverse

anyone else noticed this?

Need a falsificationist to tell you if the report is false, or the battle results are false in the first place.

I get confused or the AI is confused about who the attecker is. I invade a province and lay seige. The invaded country sends an army to attack me. Am I the defender or the attcker? When results are shown at end of the battle it seems at times I have been the attacker and at other times the defender. I am at the point that I don't concern myself with the number results until the end turn report. It doesn't really matter because I know if I won the battle or not anyway. I just don't know the exact numbers.

I used to get confused too but after a while I just learned that if I won the battle the smaller result were my losses and reverse otherwise.

Naval battles present an exception.

The defender is determined by the nation who has had a unit in the province the longest. It's a good definition because it always produces a clear answer, but it's sometimes quite counter-intuitive.

We've had a good suggestion to use the names of the principle nations rather than "attacker"/"defender" for detailed combat messages. It's something I'd like to do.

There is strategic versus tactical offensive/defensive.
